Wow - I just realised that since I had my LBM in October I've paid over £6,000 off my debts including interest! This means I've reduce my debts by £5,718.90 in 9 months! That's quite impressive if I do say so myself! :j
Not looking likely that I'll manage to clear the rest by the end of the year which I would have liked, but can't be too hard on myself as we've also continued to make (slow) progress on the house! Plus I've had to have my car repaired and paid for the villa for next year's holiday and saved money for this that and the other!
    Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
    Current debt - £5,555.00
Total paid off - £10,045.89 (64% paid off)
  • Wow! It has taken me several days to read your diary from start to finish and I am really impressed with your determination - I have subscribed and will be keeping up to date with you reaching your target :)

I have even downloaded the shopping apps based on your advice - think I have 1.21 and 2p so far.......:rotfl:

Well done twiggy, that's amazing! To be able to pay all of that off AND save for holidays and pay for car and house repairs without taking more credit is actually amazing. And if it takes beyond the end of the year to pay it, it doesn't matter as you've still been able to plan stuff and 'live' rather than scraping by. You should be very proud :T:T:T

Nows the time - you deserve a medal for making it this far! I hope my ramblings have helped you! And actually I've been a bit lapse with my shopping apps as I fell out with shopitize! Bought some things that would have been free after they paid out only to later find that my receipt had been declined and I'd thrown it out! So make sure you don't buy what you don't actually want!

    Thanks AleMrsT and Brightspark!

So I was naughty and didn't do this last month as wasn't feeling very positive! But today is my 9 month LBM anniversary.

My signature on 15 May was:-

    LBM 16.10.14 - CC - £6,652.68 - now £4,563.00
    OD - £480.52 - now £0 :j Next - £436.48 - now £0 :j
    Beds - £1,667.00 - now £0 :j Parents - £626.96 - now £66.96
    TOTAL - £9,863.64 - now £4,629.96
    £1,000 EF #31 - £125.04/£1,000 Pay off by xmas 2015 #49 £3,657.96/£5,000

My signature as of today is:-
    LBM 16.10.14 - CC - £6,652.68 - now £3,994.74
    OD - £480.52 - now £0 :j Next - £436.48 - now £0 :j
    Beds - £1,667.00 - now £0 :j Parents - £626.96 - now £0 :j
    TOTAL - £9,863.64 - now £3,994.74
    £1,000 EF #31 - £365.40/£1,000 Pay off by xmas 2015 #49 £4,293.18/£5,000

Meaning I've paid off £635.22 in the last two months. Which is less than I previously paid off in some months! However I have had a lot of other stuff to pay out for and went a bit off track, however I'm now firmly back on the right path!

If I want to meet my current DFD of March 16 I need to find £500 a month to pay off the CC, which I'm not is doable but then I look back at how much I used to pay off and I think that maybe it is! Really need OH to get back on the right path too as then that will help. Although he does owe me some money at the moment which any money he gives me will have to go towards first! Also if lodger pays up for the next 2 weeks that's abit more help!

But the total debt is now under £4k so I can start to see the end in sight, just hope this doesn't mean I get lax again! Also as much as I want to see this debt gone, it is interest free for another 2 years or so, so I may focus more on getting the house done up as the state of it is driving me crazy... oh but then this debt hanging over me is also driving me crazy! Oh gosh, now I'm confusing myself so I'm just going to shut up!

    Current debt - £5,555.00

Back from a great weekend away! I did overspend slightly so need to work out how much (only about £10-£20 I think) and rejig my budget slightly for next month. On the plus side, my friend drove us meaning we could split one lot of petrol 4 ways rather than between me and OH. On the negative side, I'd already filled my car up with petrol thinking I was driving! So needed to find an extra £25 but I now have a full tank which will help next month!

As much as I needed the break at least now that's my expensive weekend out the way and I can get back to debt busting! Although this month (well August) will involve a few more social events than normal as my friend who moved to Australia last year is back for a month so will be meeting her/girly nights out a few times!

Oh, should have mentioned that I didn't get that job but that really doesn't come a surprise after the horrendous interview! So even though I now don't have to worry about taking a pay cut, I am going to continue to use the extra £200 a month following my pay rise to build up my emergency fund to £1,000 and then might think about putting it towards mortgage overpayments as the CC is interest free. Something to consider anyway.

    OK - made a decision...

I've just set up to overpay my mortgage by £100 a month! So I will build my emergency fund up by £100 per month and overpay the mortgage by £100. I can stop the overpayment at any time, so I'll see how it goes as may decide to put it towards the renovations instead. It really doesn't help that I'm so indecisive! But it could potentially save £12,873 in interest and knock over 10 years off the term - so surely it can't be a bad decision?!
