Hi all!
So our lodger left last week to go travelling for 3 months - me and OH were very much looking forward to having the house to ourselves (not that lodger any trouble)! However that has now gone down the pan! Another of OH's friends turned up on Thursday with no where to go, so he's now staying with us for a few weeks as after that I potentially have a friend staying who's back from Australia for a month! But I guess the extra money will come in handy.
Other than that, don't feel I have much to report! Took another 53 seconds off my time at parkrun so must be getting fitter even if I feel like dying half way round! Only spent about £10 over the weekend and had a lovely day on Saturday having a picnic with some friends. Also managed to blitz most the house yesterday which makes me happy again!
Second interview on Wednesday so fingers and toes crossed!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
Current debt - £5,555.00
Total paid off - £10,045.89 (64% paid off)0 -
I'm getting very annoyed at OVO, well actually just energy companies in general! So due to Co-op not actually contacting me the switch was delayed as they needed meter readings but didn't get in contact to ask for them or let me know how to submit them! This meant that my electricity went over into a new month with OVO, meaning I've had to pay both direct debits this month coming to £180! I am over £300 in credit with OVO - but will they let me withdraw it... NO! Apparently they need to ensure there's enough to cover my final bill!
So I'm hoping once I get my next statement from them on about 12th I will be able to withdraw all the credit. That will be good as that will be a good chunk that I can chuck at the CC which will then take my debt out of the 4's and into the 3's!!!
I'm undecided whether to use the money from the new lodger to build up the renovation fund or throw at the CC - trying to decide what will make me happier as desperately want to get the house renovations moving but also desperately want to see the back of the debt! I guess I can't have everything! Maybe I'll split it between the two to give me the best of both worlds! :rotfl:Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89

So my interview went horribly! They were asking for my opinion on scenarios but the scenarios aren't relevant to my work so I only had a brief understanding of the issues! But oh well, all good practice. And at least I made it down to the final 6 so that's something to be proud of as there's A LOT of competition!
I've ended up lending my OH £500 from my "pots" to pay for the rest of his holiday! "What" I hear you shout at me! Yes I am too soft and he seriously needs to get better with money but I have had a serious chat with him about it. Going forward I am going to be very harsh with him and he will pay it all back - no excuses accepted!
Went to circuits again last night so that's 2 sessions a week for the last 6 weeks. Wish I could measurably see my progress as I know I'm fitter than I was but not as fit/strong as I'd like but guess I need to be patient! And still 2 and a half months to go until tough mudder. Need to start building some longer runs into my training as only doing 5km at parkrun at the moment - TM is 10-12 miles!
Bit concerned about new lodger - originally he said he'd pay me Tuesday, then it was Thursday as that is a week he's been staying with us, and then last night he said he'd pay me tonight. If he doesn't pay up I'll have to speak to OH about having a chat with him. Don't want to throw him out on the streets but also I am not a charity and it costs to have an extra person there! Alternatively the guy he's working for at the moment is a good friend of OH so could always ask that he pays us and deducts it from lodgers wages!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89

Hey twiggy. Hope you get OVO sorted out, hopefully they'll let you withdraw the funds, that's ridiculous that they've kept it.
Sorry to hear that your interview didn't go so well, but as you say it was fantastic to be shortlisted and you know what NOT to do next time, and I think interviews are actually great practice, especially if you know where it went 'wrong'.
New lodger sounds like hard work, give him the benefit of the doubt until next week them tell him to pack his bags. It's not your fault if he can't honour his side of the agreement.
On a lighter note, at least at the moment you haven't got the dilemma of deciding where to put lodgers money :rotfl: (Sorry, it's not funny really)

Oh AleMrsT - that did actually make me laugh! Yes I guess it does solve my predicament! :rotfl:
And actually he still hasn't paid! I was quite proud of myself though as normally I'm a complete push over but when he said on Friday "can I pay you tomorrow" I responded that he's said "tomorrow" yesterday! He then asked if it was ok and I said "do I have a choice". Very good for me, not that it helped as he paid me £20 and now "can't find his bank card". I'm going to text him and "remind" him to go to the bank. Actually..... Done! I can't wait until he's gone as he's just constantly moaning and I'm already bored of hearing him complain first thing in the morning, as soon as I get in from work and last thing at night! Especially when I'm not even being paid for the privilege! Sorry to sound heartless! And sorry to moan about somebody moaning! :rotfl:
Other than that, I had a good weekend! Parkrun went terribly as I've pulled my thigh muscle so was struggling and then got a stitch! But a lovely runner made me keep going and gave me a tip to eradicate me stitch! Went out with some friends Saturday afternoon who then came back to ours for the evening and OH then cooked us all a brekkie yesterday morning! Then yesterday afternoon was then spent lazing in front of the TV watching the tennis (gutted Federer lost!)
Must check on OVO today and see if I can withdraw my money yet although they haven't emailed to say the statement is ready so I'm not holding my breath!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89

Argh!!!! Lodgers texted me saying "tomorrow"! Apparently as he hasn't got his bank card he needs his driving licence to get money out which is at his mums! At what point do I get serious and tell him he's tack the p£&&?!?!
He literally dumped himself on us after only seeing him the week before for the first time in about two years, so it's not even like he's a close friend! Would be a bit more lenient if it was a close friend! Grrrr!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89

Yep I agree! However, he got a very blunt talking to when I got home last night and told he was taking the p£$& and implied that he either pays today or he's out - no more excuses and no more "tomorrow"s! Fingers crossed! It's more the principle that he's trying to make me look like a fool than the actual money. I was very pleased that I stuck up for myself as normally I'm a soft touch. He's only staying for another week and a half thank fully!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89

On a more positive note, I was finally able to withdraw the credit from my OVO account! So that's just under £270 making it's way into my bank account! I'm thinking £150 towards the CC and £120 towards the house fund but I'm sure I'll change my mind before it gets here! :rotfl:Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89

Yay! Lodger paid up yesterday! So that's an extra £60 - £30 off CC and £30 in the house renovation pot!
Went to circuits last night despite having tweaked my quad, but actually managed to do most of the exercises ok just couldn't sprint but then I'm rubbish at sprinting anyway!
Looking forward to a weekend away this weekend with OH and some friends! Annoyed that the weather doesn't look great as we had planned to do bodyboarding and just generally relax down the beach. But I'm sure we'll still have a great time! Annoyingly my friend asked me to help with another kids party on Sunday so the extra money would have been handy but as I'm away I can't help!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
