    Three and a half hours at two jobs.

    First one - sticking bits of cardboard onto more cardboard to make a pouch to insert some sample of washing tablets that were dished out in junk mail. It was very intricate for something most people would sling out within 5 secs of removing the tablets.

    Second was one of these 'marketing' jobs. Turns out to go around offices selling rubbish things to the workers. One thing I could remember we tried to sell was a battery operated rotating disco light ball.

    Both times, the bosses told us to break for lunch and return at (time).

    Needless to say, I never returned after lunch. The first job, the agency were stupid enough to pay me for 22.5 hours as the job was for 3 full days a week. I couldn't tell you what the job title was as its was 13-14 years ago.

    The two shortest jobs that I have had are;

    1) Working for Somerfields when I was 16. In those days employees had to pack shopping for all customers. I had an issue with my shoulder which meant that the 8 hours a day of reaching for items on the conveyor with that arm caused me to be crippled in agony for the full week afterwards. I asked if I could move to the express tills as these faced the other way so I would be reaching with my good arm instead - I think this was perceived by managers as my trying to "get out of" packing trolleys of shopping so I was not humoured, and so had leave to save myself further pain and stress. To be honest, I hated every minute of the job anyway and it was no big loss. I was there for approximately 2 months.

    2) Working for a company that manufactured components for vehicles. I got the interview through an agency, but during the interview I wasn't convinced that it was what I wanted to do (too supply chain focused, not enough emphasis on customer service) so I turned their offer down. Both the agency and the company contacted me to reassure me that the job really did have lots of customer contact, so I agreed to start. It was not at all what I had wanted, and I hated it - I barely spoke to anyone and spend all my time looking at spreadsheets. On my second day I was sat in my car at lunch thinking - "What if I was to just drive away now..?". I managed to slog it out for a total of 12 weeks while searching for another job, and luckily found something else.

    I've really enjoyed reading this thread - it's nice to know that there can be a happy ending to being stuck in a terrible job that you hate!

    Good spot - other questions asked by the OP include "What are your random thoughts". !!!!!!.

    Someone lacks a bit of attention?

    Similar to a earlier poster about 30 seconds. Agency lied to me and said job didn't involve cold calling and canvassing work. Something I specifically told them I wouldn't do.

    2 days. The other people in the section spoke to each other in whispers so I couldn't join in the conversation and when I went to the loo they spoke louder and when I came back they all just went quiet again. They made me very uncomfortable as I walk with a walking stick and they made me very paranoid. The job was rubbish also so on the 3rd day I went into the office early and put a letter that I had written the night before at home on the HR's and little Hitlers desk (the section leader) and told them exactly what I thought of them and told them how rude they where as they didn't make me feel welcome. I also told them that it was bad that they used the disabled parking space which I should have been in as I have a blue badge as a normal space.(tut tut). PS: I did mention this on the first morning I started but they just ignored it.

    I let them have it double guns and then I turned around and held my head high and me and my walking stick walked out, be it very slowly.

    Four months working for the man that became my brother in law, never work for future relatives. I believe it's known as conflict of interest :-)
