  • many yrs ago whilst working for an agency , they asked if I was any good a building work,

reported to a site to see the joiners doing wooden frames for bases that needed to be filled with concrete , they were big , deep and a good few of them.

forman says "you here to help with the concreting?" ,, umm yes , wheres the mixer?

you are ! he says pointing to a cement mixer , a barrow and a huge pile of materials,

I think that job lasted for 4 minutes!
  • another incident , many yrs later , this time the job centre , a silly training (get you off the dole for 6 mths) thing , only places that would take volunteer's were charity shops , the one in question was being run by the regional manager , to say she was a cow , would be an insult to cows ! , shout and winge , and comments like "you lot are here because you are criminals" , classing everyone with the hand full of people who were doing community service.

phone set to record , and challenged her ,

back to job centre , and was told not to return and all the other people were dragged out..

Four hours working at BB's Muffins when I was 17. Realised as I arrived that I'd been recruited because the other member of staff had quit suddenly and was told I had to basically run the whole place by myself on a busy Saturday, which included serving customers food, drinks, making said food and cleaning up.

Anyway, I got to it. The Manager basically sat in the back room only emerging to shout at me in Punjab or Urdu. After the queue started going out the door and I got verbally abused, and then spat on, I took off my apron and walked out :)

4-5 weeks in Sports Direct - honestly the contempt I hold Mike Ashley in after that experience cannot be fully expressed in words, it's also the only job where I haven't worked any notice.
Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.
  • Well about 3 weeks ago I did a job for a morning and decided it wasn't for me. I don't usually do things like that. It's just after my last job a new one has got to be perfect before ill take it.

When I was a teenager I did a job for 5 days and left.

    About 30 seconds.

Many years ago a recruitment agency sent about 15 of us to an abbatoir.

I didn't even get out of the van, I heard the intense squealing amd refused to get out. I can still hear it today, probably about 15 years later

One from my dim and distant past...

I had been working weekends for a certain well known cash/carry chain while going through school and Uni. As part of my university course, I had to spend a year doing work experience, and I agreed with my employer to go full time in a supervisory role for that year.

So, I turn up for the first day of my working life as a full time employee, looking forward to the challenges ahead. 30 minutes later we were marched into a conference room and told that all full time staff were being made redundant as part of a restructuring exercise. Doh.

It was definitely a valuable lesson in the realities of employment, and I felt really bad for the people around me, many of whom I had known for years anyway, and who were dependent on their income in a way that I clearly wasn't at the time. Ultimately they all got rehired as this was really more a technical exercise to vary terms of employment, but there were a lot of shocked, angry and tearful faces at that meeting.
