WWYD: go back to original hairdresser, or find a new one?

  • I don't think it was 'the mistake' that made the op react the way she did but the indifference towards her from the staff member towards a long term regular customer - that would have riled me too.
A decent and genuine apology would have gone a long way, even if there was no way she could be fitted in.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Other than this situation, are you happy with the way your current hairdresser cuts your hair ?

Are you happy with the price ?

If so, why cut your nose off to spite your face ?

I am sure that there is lots of drama that goes on in a hairdressers so they probably don't even remember the incident - if they do, so what ?

Think of it as "every cloud has a silver lining" I wouldn't go back as I don't appreciate poor customer service.Find a new hairdresser they may be better and/or cheaper.

Realistically do you use them because they do a good job?

If the answer is yes and wherever else you have tried does not then perhaps they have more than enough work.

If they do then really you do not want to change. If so its very simple to say, sorry I blew up I was really looking forward to getting my hair cut/redone it always makes me feel better. Can you book an appointment etc. Job done.

I.e. life is short apologise move on no biggie.

If they are one of many no big deal either way.

I think I would have been upset, too Savvy_Sue

I have actually had to wait a bit longer in a hairdressers because one of his regulars needed an appointment urgently as they were going to a funeral that day and he didn't want to let them down, so he fit them in before me. It sounds like the salon you went to don't value your custom that much.

If you like the hairdresser you went to, can you find out if they would do a home appointment or private work. Obviously the salon aren't going to tell you, but if you put your feelers out you may be able to get her contact number?

The only other option I can think of is to let your hair grow or do a DIY job on it. I am growing mine now, after a disastrous last haircut (!), and I just trim the fringe myself.

  • I suppose it would make a difference to me if all the stylists were employed by the salon or if they are self-employed renting chairs.

I wouldn't expect one stylist to care about another's appointment if they were self-employed (and busy).

Who made the appointment? Your stylist or someone who may not have noticed the "holiday" at the top of the diary?

I don't think you can blame your stylist if they didn't have anything to do with the booking.

To be honest, I do think you over-reacted. If I had done that (my stylist is self-employed) I'd apologise to the other stylist and let it go.

It was a mistake, we are all human.

Sue, you just need to speak to your own hairdresser, find out how the mistake happened and tell her hiw you were treated.

As I said, she'll not want to lose a client.

Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)
  • I think I’d have been a bit miffed too, not so much by the mistake but by the unhelpfulness of the other stylist. Not sure if I’d have said I probably wouldn’t be back (least said soonest mended and all that), but having said it I’d feel I had to make it true.

I tend to save up all the things I can only do in town and do them in one hit to minimise my trips there, so you could put your haircuts on your to-do list when you go to your nearest big town? (Having my hair cut is one of those things, for me, as I go to an FE college where it’s very, very cheap. This does of course mean there’s no choice about who cuts it, but it’s always been absolutely fine and they take more care than in most salons, if anything – however I have a very simple, unlayered, just past shoulder-length style, so they only really need to be able to cut straight!)

Obviously there are other hairdressers not too far away, but these are the only two I can easily walk to, so it's very convenient.

So, do I give 'my' stylist another chance and re-book?

Or go back to the barber and try to train him to do it better?

    Or go elsewhere?

Meh, it's convenience versus service, by the sounds of things. Your usual hairdresser might be horrified that you've been treated the way you have.

I'm surprised the barber cuts women's hair, I get the impression most of them don't want the hassle of doing women's haircuts!

Why not look out for a home-hairdresser? Or has anyone you know got any recommendations for another salon? I used to have a good hairdresser but she left the salon and i never found out where she went to :( Nowhere seems to cut my hair well these days, to the extent that for the most part I just don't bother going! I'm going to try just using a Crea Clip when it gets long, and see how I get on.

  • I'd go back. Good hairdressers are hard to find

They made a mistake, you got upset - no big deal. book an appointment and act like it never happened. They are so busy they probably forgot all about it, and it is a bigger deal to you than them
