There was only one hairdresser in the salon at that time. She was someone I had never seen before. So no, she could not be expected to know that I was a long term client. But even if it had been my first visit, her attitude fell short of what I'd hope for.ETA: If a person was long term clientele, then the staff would know them and even less likely to be entirely dismissive.
No, no-one's ever got back to me. I know I've given them my phone no., more than once, but I'm prepared to believe they don't store them in a very organised way.And if that is the case, an entire salon is rude to you, the original stylist never called to apologise even later on, why the heck would you WANT to go back to them, no matter how good their cut?
No, never a receptionist, just a stylist I'd never met before. There are other people in at various times, often a trainee, but it's a small place, no room for more than two or three people working at a time!Well, from what I've gleaned reading the OP's posts the 'entire salon' consists of two people (?), - the hairdresser who's gone on her holidays without letting her customer know, and another one who can't or won't fit her in despite her being let down badly and needing a haircut that day. I'd find a new salon.
Given your requirements I'd find one who employs a beautician or has a beautician renting a room in the salon.
I don't usually have beauty treatments at a salon, but on one occasion have been threaded while I had foils on, and another time had my nails done.0 -
If your hairdresser is a good one, I would go back. Agree with others that finding a hairdresser that you click with and understands your hair can be hard.
They did mess up, but if they didn't have your phone number I guess there would have been nothing they could have done. But it does sound like they could have been a bit more apologetic.
These things happen, go back if you've been happy otherwise.
I recently found myself a good home hairdresser. Cheaper and more convenient but she is lovely girl and does a really good job on my hair. Result!0 -
I voted find another salon as I had exactly the same thing happen to me once. I had a blind date and desperately needed a haircut. The appointment had been booked a couple of weeks in advance, I'd taken the afternoon off work and driven 10 miles to the salon only to find it was my stylists 'day off and I couldn't possibly have an appointment'
So I went back to work, a colleague pointed me in the direction of her friend who ran her own home salon who squeezed me in in the interests of true love (which I didn't find).

Ummmm.......I'm lost. I'm so sorry but reading the OP has made me think that you sound like a spoiled brat and I was actually laughing at how pathetic it sounds.
If that is all you have to stress about in life then you are very blessed. I haven't been to a hairdresser for nearly 10 years as I can't afford it, I cut my own.....oh, there's another option for you
Perhaps I'm feeling really grumpy which is why I'm writing what, probably, most people want to write. There are people on this forum who genuinely need advice on some very personal and serious issues, this isn't one of them.0 -
I would eat humble pie and rebook. If you're happy with your hairdresser, stick with her.
I went for a last minute haircut before going on holiday a long time ago. I went to my usual salon but a different stylist.
Suffice to say I spent a week in Morocco wearing slicked back hair and an alice band.
It was truly horrific. I was savaged. I'm still not fully over the trauma.I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

There's another hairdresser next to the barber, but I don't like them: they think they know better than me how I'd like my hair done.
I know this isn't the bit you wanted advice on, but...
...why don't you take a plunge and let them try something different with your hair? It can be easy to get fixed on one style and convinced nothing else will do, but fashions, styles and techniques change and develop all the time and you might be pleasantly surprised.
I always let my hairdresser do pretty much what they want, it always works out fine. They've got years and years of training and experience in doing people's hair so it suits them and looks good, all I can do is blast it with a hairdryer and put it in a ponytail, so I let the professional get on with it and use those skills that I pay them a small fortune for!0 -

Can't believe people think it was an overreaction, I'd be fed up if this happened me as well, and I certainly wouldn't feel motivated to apologise. In fact I'd be expecting an apology. You made an appointment, it was in the book clearly marked. Your regular hairdresser should have made sure that there was nothing written in for her or made an arrangement and booked you in with someone else if she was going to be away and hadn't really planned it. I'd give her a chance if she's a good hairdresser but I would be expecting to be made a fuss of.
Mind you I think there are different types of hairdressers, mine is very organised, I'm taken on time every time and am out within an hour. Given how busy my life is, I am prepared to pay a premium for this kind of service. I know I could get probably an equally good haircut a lot cheaper but in a salon that's a lot looser about appointment times etc. So maybe that's what's being reflected here.
Mind you in my business I would grovel if I was late or missed an appointment so this just seems like good business sense to me. You don't let people down, it's not good for business. And if you do, accidentally or otherwise, it's acceptable for the other person to be a bit POd and to expect an apology.0
