Although I am a bit concerned. This is not normal behaviour. She's obviously upset that we caught her cleaner "at it" but surely any normal person would try and sort it out not go off on one like this? This is the behaviour of someone who's not quite right. (and I'm not knocking mental illness at all having suffered myself years ago).

There are plenty of people who can't/won't accept they may have done something wrong or who have not delivered what they promised and cannot deal with any consequences. Sadly some of these people run businesses and probably shouldn't.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
Is there a chance the cleaner in question is related to her or a good friend?0
-
Out of interest how much were you paying the cleaning company?
If less than £12 per hour then my experience would be that you're unlikely to ever get a satisfactory cleaner. The cleaning companies are only obligated to pay minimum wage but if you're a cleaner that's quite hard because you spend a lot of unpaid time travelling between houses, so can effectively end up with like £4 per actually hour of cleaning.
My advice would be to employ a cleaner directly esp if they are cleaning a house near you.0 -
Paul personal recommendation is the best way to go. I've had some good/excellent cleaners that way. And local if possible.
The best was a young mum, who was doing a course once a week, then her mother took over. They stayed with me, becoming friends, for 11 years.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
Key returned now. She'd put it through the neighbours door (???). Probably just to be awkward. The police ended up phoning me - just to check I got the key. Apparently, she'd been phoning them constantly saying she was too afraid to give the key back.
She showed them the texts where I'd disrespected her lol. (basically compalained and then asked for key back). In no way was anything threatening or abusive. A very strange woman indeed. Got the impression police were just glad they didnt have to speak to her any more and her weird take on what is a crime.
I am now beginning to think if cleaner (a young girl) was related to the owner. It was company not an agency. Obviously, for some reason, although she was caught red handed took it badly at being checked up on. To be honest, if you get caught the last thing you can do is complain you're being checked if you ask me.
BTW. Its was £10 an hour she was being paid.0 -
I suspect she's ripping people off left right and centre, and trying to cover her back while she does so.i think you are well rid of her0

Wow how strange!
I am a dog walker and I also do pet checks in the owners home. I'm happy to be filmed while in the owners homes. I prefer to know I'm being filmed but I never do anything untoward so if it is secret that's ok.
I had a incident a few months ago where someone was complaining about my service. I was looking after their cat while they were on holiday. She still had people in the house and I really wasn't sure why they couldn't look after that cat! But if she was willing to pay me so I was happy to work!
Anyway, I got an email a couple of days in with the woman telling me she wasn't happy. I inquired why and explained everything I was doing. I even sent her photos of her cat. Apparently this wasn't enough and after two more complaints she asked me to return the key.
Due to me not knowing what I had done wrong I was a bit wary about whether she might accuse me of stealing or breaking something. It just didn't sit right with me. So I made a receipt the housemates had to sign confirming the date and time the key was returned and confirming nothing was missing or broken. Luckily I didn't hear back.
With the reaction you received it makes me wonder if the cleaner was doing something dodgy in your house. Have you checked all your valuables?0 -
This is an odd reaction to a what seems a simple and straight forward complaint to a company.
In my mind if your inviting strangers into your home to work for you and they are left alone, you should protect yourself and your valuable assets by getting a safe and placing things you value in it such a jewelry, cash, spare car keys, any personal documentation such as bank statements, bank cards that are not regularly used, and security mark all personal fixed items like TV's DVD player consoles even the kettle and have the safe in the house where the cleaner/employee has no permitted access to and is not visible.
and have in home security in main rooms, its about £200 for a basic CCTV and base harddrive (and can be accesed via android anywhere as long as its hooked up to the router).
TBH I would have the barrels changed in the locks with new keys, B'N'Q do them and not hard to change yourself.0 -

What makes you think she didn't get another 1 or 10 cut?0 -
Quite simple really, I agree with you. I have a cleaner (she is self employed) and she started out like a whirlwind! But after 5 weeks it started to slip, I only got a good job done when I was around and preferably working with her albeit in another room.
But I am away a lot in the summer and last year came home to a not so clean house despite that she was still being aid to come in and clean every week even though I was away. It should have been sparkling! I let her go (saying I couldnt afford it).
I'm now moving house so have a lot on and asked her back. When she is not smoking she is on her mobile phone. I can see this not lasting long.
My previous cleaner was very good but was a pilferer of stuff like toilet paper which was annoying. She got caught and sacked from another job and gave us all up. Ironically when she serves me from the market stall she works on she gives me a massive discount, so she is still pilfering from her employer. I dont shop there anymore.
I hope we both manage to find someone good and trustworthy in the future.0
