    Good morning :)

Hope your oh is on the mend soon gocat :grouphug:

Not sure if any of you remember that ds2 is beig assessed for adhd/autism and I was worried because they were struggling getting him to put pen to paper in class. He got a new teacher 3 weeks ago and all of a sudden reports changed from him "only writing one word" to " he is doing really well and working almost as he should". At the same time he is getting more reluctant to go to school...Before this new teacher came they tried reward charts, punishing him by taking playtime and treats off him and having a teacher sit with him but he really struggles to focus when left alone to work - he is only 6.

I thought the new teacher had worked magic getting such a quick turnaround in him, this morning however, I have found out that she is shouting at him to get him to work, I am so upset. Ds2 did not tell me - when he gets really upset it lasts all of 2 minutes then it is gone in a flash - I think it has something to do with whatever condition they eventually come up with for him. He has never told me about getting told off at school, he normally says he can't remember if he has got into trouble through the day. It ws another parent that told me because her son had told her Ds2 kept being shouted at.

2 kids in the class have wet themselves in a week and they have not done this since being toilet trained, because they are not allowed to go to the toilet apart from break and dinner - they are 6 :( They get shouted at if they ask to go in lesson time.

Although I am happy that ds2 is starting to do his work, I am far from happy with the method that is seemingly being used. Ds2 doesn't get shouted at at home and I do not want him shouted at in school, unless he is really out of line, especially as it seems to be making him not want to go. Don't get me wrong, if he is "naughty" he gets a stern talking to or sent to his room and he will say sorry and stop what he was doing, he does not need to be shouted at.

The way ds2 is, he is like a bundle of electricity happily buzzing around here, there and everywhere and he can be difficult to reign in. He needs dealing with with patience and firmness but in a calm way. He can't help the way he is and I would not change him for the world.

Sorry for the ramble but I am so upset at the thought of him being handled so badly even though I have had meetings at school and they are aware of the ongoing assesment.

    Rant over

DS1 had a teacher like that in primary school. He was one of the few kids who suddenly had an accident (I think he was about year 3) because has she wouldn't let them go toilet.
She didn't last long thankfully, they got rid of her quick.
Apparently she as having problems with her husband.
Was no need for her to take it out on our kids

PD, a question for you please.

My family do a secret santa for Christmas for the adults. I have drawn my SIL, and her hobbies are baking and gardening. If you had to choose the things that you as a baker would not be without what would they be please? And what is the item you would want the most? The budget is £50.

She only bakes for herself and my DS, and just does the basics, but has recently started experimenting with icing and making shapes with icing paste. She bought a basic set of shape cutters for the icing paste from lakeland.

    Many thanks in advance.
I love baking but don't get much chance. What I would give my eye teeth for is the really expensive baking pans that turn out every time.

Piping bags and nozzles.. once you start doing that, you can't stop :D But i do agree that decent baking tins (for victoria sandwich/loaf tin for tea breads etc) are brilliant. Not very sexy but practical :D

Anyone else ON THE THREAD (that's for you Savvy ;) ) feeling a bit snuffly today? I'm bunged up.

All over the shop today. Interviewing someone at the Old Bailey later which is very exciting. Off I pop!

Been snuffly and chesty cough for almost 4 weeks now :( I keep thinking I'm getting better then go downhill again. Doc gave me antibiotics and a steroid inhaler but I'm still not right :( He said it might be bronchitis or the flu. Is anyone else this bad?

Strewth, so sorry to hear that. Shouting as a method only ever works as an attention grabber and not as a strategy. That is poor teaching indeed! Is the teacher new to the school? Only asking because it's more likely to be resolved if it's a new teacher, as if it's one who has been there a long time often it is accepted that that is the way they are. Completely unacceptable imo but seems to happen from time to time. I would definitely speak to either the teacher and say that you're concerned and/or the head. My temutation is teacher first as it may be a chance to discuss other strategies and your problems with his willingness to attend school. It's also a better way to get the teacher on board as going straight above them can cause friction (as with other jobs tbh). If you feel this would get you no-where, the Senco is another alternative if you already have some sort of relationship with them?
Although I am naturally 'up for a fight' in these situations I know it can be scary. But if you don'T say something, nothing will change. The teacher may not actually be aware that they are shouting so much as they may be so stressed it becomes their voice. (I'm not excusing it, but if it isn't pointed out they may not see it. It also depends on others in the school. I know of one school where the standard for behaviour management was shouting which is really bad practice but as everyone was doing it people didn't realise.)
English law states that parents are responsible for their children's education and we may give over some of that responsibility to the state. This does mean you sometimes have to fight to get the best for them but you are also the one that knows the best so can fight the best!

I can beat that....somewhere in the depths of that thread I have posted my proposal story....happened around 6 weeks after the first date and consisded of what I thought was a general chat about where we saw our future whilst chatting in a pub one night....the question of "do you want to get married?" came up and I replied "yep at some point"
Fast forward a few days and he turns up on the Saturday afternoon at my parents house to take me ring shopping....totally gobsmaked with the remark,I had clearly missed the proposal...

So in a sense...20 odd years after the marriage I am still waiting....
I recall mine well, if you can call it that. I was waiting for the last train at Marks Tay rail station, we saw it coming in the distance. He then decides to ask me if I want ot go ring shopping next week. I just about had time to say yes please and have a quick kiss, then I had to get on the train.

I too am still waiting for the romantic proposal, and we have been married 30 years!

He he love these stories. My sis had been waiting for a proposal for ages, been together for 10 years and for the last 5 years has been wondering when he would do it!!. She was already looking at rings etc. Then he proposed last year. And she only went ring shopping this summer :rotfl: they both said they were too busy to shop.

My proposal was a long one too.. Been together with OH for 8 years and we were in the process of buying a house. We went out for dinner one night and he was a bit jumpy and fussy about where we went. At the end of the meal he said "so, if we are buying a house together, are we going to be together forever" and I laughed and said "next question", until i saw a glittering diamond in a box. He'd been to Antwerp and bought the diamond without me knowing and had the ring made in Hatton Garden.. little romantic that he is :A:D
I love hearing proposal stories :T
