Nectar is Changing means Sainsbury saving THEIR costs

Tesco did the same a few years back.0

I shopped for years online with Sainsbury's and the nectar points built up so much that after 3 years we could afford half an electric lawnmower at Homebase. With Tesco's we used to stay a weekend a year at the Bath Spa Hotel amd goto Legoland with the kids. Nectar has always been rubbish and this just finishes it.
We swapped to Asda online to save costs and, because Nectar was virtually pointless (no pun), don't miss a loyalty card. We miss Sainsburys veg a bit, but Asda's fish, chicken and steaks are both much cheaper and nicer (2 nice ribeye steaks for £7, half side of Salmon around £6.50).
I think Sainsbury's would be better pulling the plug and just offer better value for money.0 -
I just received an email telling me about this. It's really disappointing as I usually get my lunch from there in Central London and get reuse bag points. I'm really going to start looking for alternatives and spend the points I currently have.0

I've had a nectar card for about 6 years and I don't think I've ever had more than £10 worth on it, but I've never liked Sainsburys. The points system in my opinion, has never been as good as Clubcard, its overpriced for what it is, and the special offers are never really that cheap. I've done so much with my Clubcard points, from using it towards redecorating a room, new winter wardrobe pieces, and days out. Plus, you do save - even if very little - some money on fuel with Clubcard. What does Nectar have to offer right now, before the points decrease? Nothing.0

Really not impressed about this! It takes forever to collect enough Nectar points for anything as it is! As A.Badger said, their prices seem to rise week by week, and I don't enjoy shopping there so much any more - almost every time I go in I notice prices have risen!0

Basically they are reducing points by over 50% with the removal of points for bag re-use as well.
A lot of guff about extra offers to increase points, they already do this with current points. The only reason for this is margin pressure. They need to help fund price cuts.
I wouldn't stop shopping there because of it, but had already significantly reduced my Sainsburys shopping anyway. I like their food, but have moved online to others, and have noticed recently a bit of a return to the bad days of empty shelves, before Justin King arrived.0 -
I'm starting to wonder if Sainsbury's doesn't have a collective deathwish. I used to use its stores for about 80 per cent of my shopping but gradually defected as its prices rose. seemingly week by week.
Nowadays, I put up with the down at heel environment at a Morrisons for branded products at usefully lower prices, Waitrose for luxury products and the chaos of Aldi for really serious savings on staples.
Just what is it that Sainsbury's thinks it has to offer that is so compelling that it can chip away at one of its few remaining selling points?
I agree , stormy seas ahead for Sainsburys I think .0 -
This is disappointing. I have a Sainsburys right next door to where I work so often going in there for the bits and bobs, especially lunch/snacks (pre-debt busting).. it probably won't deter me from going in there hugely but it has been quite good collecting Nectar quite swiftly and being able to get a 'free lunch' every now and then with them. It's good about them staying properly on petrol though.- on a mission to be debt-free by the end of 2017 -
