We will introduce a 5p charge on all single-use plastic carrier bags in England in October 2015. There is already a similar 5p charge on single-use bags in Wales and Northern Ireland, and Scotland will be introducing a charge in 2014.

    Does this mean "if elected"?

I have always liked shopping in S'burys and found their stuff to be good quality. Unfortunately their prices are getting silly, e.g. 40 pence for Basics tinned tomatoes. So, what to do? Our nearest Asd@ is like a bear garden, the 24 hour Tsco is ok but not keen on all their ranges or prices, no Morr1 sons nearby, no Waitrose ( couldn't afford to do whole shop there anyway)......I now do a lot of shopping at the German discounters with bits from Home Bargains, Sainsbugs and Tsco. Takes more time but worth it for keeping food bills down. I certainly agree the decision to cut the value of Nectar points is silly, it won't do them any favours.

They have also drastically reduced the points via adpoints which is mostly how I get my points.
It won't be worth the effort soon may just ditch it.

I ditched them a couple of months ago , they were my nearest supermarket & we found them convenient for lots of reasons including collecting nectar points. They just got so blooming expensive , I know they were never the cheapest but it just got ridiculous.
We now shop at a Lidl which is a fraction of the size but we manage to get most of our shopping there and save around 30% and get a few other bits at asda/Sainsburys or Morrison's and home bargains / b&m bargains , surprisingly now we have got organized it doesn't seem to take much more time .

Fortunately Sainsbury's is my least used supermarket so it will not affect me much anyway.

Also they stopped giving Nectar point on Spirits "Because of minimum pricing legislation", which is b0110cks. 10p's worth of points off a £20 bottle of spirits is not going to put it under its minimum price!

Also was it Sainsbury's that mistakenly put up a poster urging its staff (yes staff not colleagues) to persuade shoppers to spend 50p more?

Nectar is a durge loyalty scheme anyway.

That's a shame. Although compared to the rewards vs the Clubcard it was always poor I guess.

I rarely shop in Sainsburys though anymore & like others have said, get most of my points from Adpoints & the surveys.

Tight "bastids". 1/2 of one percent saved (well less, really because it's not on all spends by any means). My feeling/hope is it will cost them more!

I'm starting to wonder if Sainsbury's doesn't have a collective deathwish. I used to use its stores for about 80 per cent of my shopping but gradually defected as its prices rose. seemingly week by week.

Nowadays, I put up with the down at heel environment at a Morrisons for branded products at usefully lower prices, Waitrose for luxury products and the chaos of Aldi for really serious savings on staples.

Just what is it that Sainsbury's thinks it has to offer that is so compelling that it can chip away at one of its few remaining selling points?
  • And so that means we get less on our dual fuel that we have just signed up to - nice.

Indeed, and Nectar is pretty naff anyway.

Anybody else remember (British Airways) Air Miles at Sainsburys? Back then, we used Sainsburys for virtually all of our supermarket shopping. Since they lost Air Miles to Tesco, we shop elsewhere.

At one time, 3-4 years ago?, Tesco offered double Clubcard points. That was enough to switch us to Tesco for a while. Then they stopped double points, their business suffered and look at their situation now.

'Loyalty' is one-sided anyway. We have six months left to collect Nectar points at current rates, plenty of time to look for alternatives. We just need a closer Aldi or Lidl. ;)
