Sky TV, Sky Talk and Sky Broadband

I think you need to wind your own neck in, I am not het up and I certainly don't need to calm down.
I just think that its a little closed to force people to use their router, I have my own router which I prefer as it works perfectly well with my current Broadband and it cost me enough money for me to not just discard it.
I have not even read anyone else's reviews because I know Sky are a good company as I have dealt with them for ten years prior to this move.
I can't believe the way you have spoken to me, like you know me. I said nothing about Nazi Germany and it was a loose reference to dictatorship by forcing people to use their router.
I just prefer to have the choice.
I don't see anything wrong with what you have been told by people obviously more knowledgeable about the subject than yourself.
If you want Sky broadband, you are required to use their router according to their terms and conditions. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Guess I won't be getting a thanks for my advice on this thread

If ALL customers have the same router with the same firmware version, then support is a lot easier. If us teccie's do something, and the connection stops working, then they wont support us. Simple as that really.
They're not going to do routine checks to ensure your using netgear, but if something goes wrong you're on your own.
Having said that, their router is once again a VERY good reliable model so you wouldn't need another....
You sounded heated when accusing sky of being a dictatorship and insulting every utility company in England... to be honest....
Ok, well I think you are bit over the top, but I'm not going to getting embroiled in an argument with someone I have not met.
I have spent near on £100 on a router that I am happy with and does the job that I need. I don't like the fact that I have to pay silly money to get Sky and that has been the force behind me being annoyed by them.
The fact remains with me though that I have dealt with many utility companies and each one I have had bad experience with, I am not alone in this either.
So if you actually work for a Utilities company and are personally offended, then tough, thats just the way it is. Life isn't perfect and I am excercising my right to freedom of speech.0 -
Lol i dont work in utilities.. I have problems too.. but calm polite conversations have usually sorted them out.
As for the "silly money" you're talking about, I paid £49 to get connected up with Sky+ and pay £55 a month for all channels, max broadband, free phone etc...
You could pay £26 a month and have free broadband (including the router) and still cheap as hell.
Once again (for the 3rd time) going through a sales person removes all the extra charges..
And if you think thats silly money, then I'd be incredibly confused. You've received all the advice regarding Sky you can from this thread and all you're doing is insulting Sky, Utilities and the prices..... Guess the thread should end here.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

I'm thinking about a change to Sky. I won't tell ya's how much I'm paying BT for my BB at the minute - it's frightening. My mum has the phone with another company and we don't have Sky.
So I was thinking of moving to a bundle to save us all some money and utilise the extra services(As it happens BT rang me yesterday to say they value my customship and want to send me a free wireless router and would be prepared to knock £2 off my current subscription - this is all very nice but like NickToye I have my own wireless router which works great, and £2 is harldy a deal in comparison to the other offers on the market - so I do not want to take out another 12month contract with them!)
So with all this in mind I was thinking we could go: Sky+, talk and BB - everyone would be happy, Dad, mum and me - respectively. heh.
We're not really to bothered about the TV, but if we were I'd urge us to get the Sky+ as it's really good. We're more focused on saving on the phone and BB.
Here's a question, we still have an old Sky dish outside on our house, but no box or subscription, would this bring the installation cost down? Would it be compatible? (it's not mega old)
To anyone else, the router provided by Sky is very good. It's the same as my Netgear one just with some Sky packaging. It's secure and easy to set up too. I know as I just set up my friends last night. She needs a wireless card, so we're just waiting for that to come through. One thing I noticed, I couldn't find the login details to browse to the router. I'm sure it's not necessary for the general user to log onto here, but I like to be able to keep an eye on things, and monitor the usage by the built in web userface. It's always a good place to start if somethign struggles to get a connection to my network etc. I guess as said previously it's restricted to enable the support teams to help easier....does make me wonder a little bit about who does have access though.
I might have a look at what Virgin offer now too.
Cheers all."The future needs a big kiss"0 -

If you don't like their terms then don't get Sky. Simple as that really.OD Girls On TourBarcelona 2008 - Dublin 20090 -
can someone tell me if I am reading the talk/talk or tiscali offers right. I currently have tiscali broadband and home phone and pay £19.99 p/m + anything extra for daytime calls/mobile calls. I then pay £10.50 p/m to bt for line rental. talk/talk and tiscali are now saying they can give me phone/broadband and line rental for between £17.50 and £22.50 p/m is that right? coz when you go onto the website for talk talk it breaks the charges down and looks like line rental is added onto the original monthly figure.Any advice on the best deal for phone/broadband and line rental would be appreciated.0

Aly, you would get more replies if you started a new thread, this one is about Sky broadband. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Just a warning, Sky do not seem to allow the use of pop software like Outlook, Incredimail, Thunderbird etc. You will be able to receive but not send mail, forcing you to use the Sky on line email only.
This is from actual experience from trying to set up pop software for friends.0
