I'm a moderator on a large-ish XenForo based forum and stuff like this can be dealt with far quicker with usually no noticeable impact to the users.

Yes, so I see. There's one just posted now, 1t 13.32pm. Plenty of posts still showing all the exclamation marks, and now some full of swear words again. This must be quite some spam attack. MSE isn't the only forum targetted either. It would be hard to stop the spam getting through though, because the swear words are inserted with gaps between the letters.

Unrelated surely, but before the mse discovery, couldn't open @btinternet.com email. Still can't. The original robotspeak msg there is now replaced by a specific add-on list of area codes currently affected.

Call this a hi-jack if you must, but as I'm not very techie, I know others may be able to say whether this is a wider spread prob, in view of #34 = 'MSE isn't the only forum targetted either'.

This seemed to coincide with a number of foul posts criticising members - browntoa in particular - across several threads. They get deleted, but I can't help thinking that the potty-fingered typist is probably to blame for the !-infested issues, despite what MSE Megan says. The timing is too uncanny...

However, I think the MSE bods do an absolutely fantastic job, the small volume of trolls who get through on here as compared to some other sites is minimal and that is great.

Hope the present nonsense gets sorted without too much hassle to the MSE team. x

I can assure you that the !! incident this morning was a complete accident on our end. It happened because we were eager to get the spam off our boards. The timing is inconsequential

It looks like we're on top of it now though, so we can get back to normal!

When we start paying for memberships, I think then we have the right to be a bit annoyed about it taking time to fix. But when it's costing me nothing, and I get so much helpful advice out of it, I am happy to wait.
