How much are you paying to use this site?
Nothing but don't discount the revenue generated by ads etc. You'd be silly to think that Martin Lewis et al do it for pure love as I stated above.
And in terms of my time, I use it a fair bit so I suggest you see my boss (I'm on leave now!) for my hourly charging rate.0 -

A free site eh?
So all the workers of MSE work for pure love of the place and Martin Lewis has made no money?!Nothing but don't discount the revenue generated by ads etc. You'd be silly to think that Martin Lewis et al do it for pure love as I stated above.

And the prize for the most condescending post goes to.... MissD.:hello:0 -
Its that advertising and affiliate revenue that is keeping the site free-to-use for the members, which is the point that was made - free-to-use, i.e. the users don't pay to use it.
Not to flog a dead horse but most of the comparitive money helping sites are free to use, same goes for mumsnet etc.
Don't get me wrong I am not unappreciative of the fact the site is free to use and yes I totally understand the advertising and affiliate revenue keeping the site free to use for the members.
I never said I didn't understand that. Martin Lewis himself has come up with an excellent idea/site that has been copied by others and I am totally grateful for a lot of the advice I've gleaned since coming here.
I was merely making the point that the moderators etc are paid.
And that Martin Lewis himself (and deservedly so) makes an income from this site.
On the morning the site went down I was being overly critical, I was just frustrated as I wanted to look for things and couldn't find them or post certain posts. All I can do is apologise for being overly critical.
Can we just leave it there now?0 -

Ah that referred to my hourly charging rate! Well when at work my time can be charged at 80 GBP an hour (cheap at the price I think!). When I'm at home I don't charge at all but in terms of time well it's valuable to everyone to its all relative.
Thanks for that, it's a long time since I've been called condescending! :A0 -

I thought the prize was awarded for the bit in bold type.
I don't think anyone here is interested in your hourly charging rate.0 -
