Regarding the breast milk, I have a strange one for you but please don't all go "OMG that's freaky!" I never breastfed DS because I have to take a tablet that might prove harmful to him. However, I have a supply of breastmilk in just one breast. It's not much but there is always at least a teaspoon's worth to squeeze out, often more. GP discovered it's a rare side-effect of the tablet I take after ruling everything else out.
Nope, not freaky - I still produce milk and haven't breastfed for over 18 months! Apparently it's quite normal to produce milk after you've had a child, even if you don't breastfeed.
Personally, I'd give it a go - that is as long as you feel comfortable doing it!

My little fella had very bad eczema until he was 2, and was given Timodine by the Dr who told me it was also great for nappy rash. It did indeed sort him out immediately if he looked slightly sore. He never got full blown nappy rash probably because of the cream.
If you describe he rash at horrific i would see the GP though to be honest, who can give you a Hydrocortisone creame if he needs it and save dragging it on."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." At risk of being shot down in flames, sudocrem has always been fab with my three - we still use it now for grazes etc and if it's stung them, they've never shown it. As someone said, perhaps it's worth a try?
Also, Huggies were the one brand of nappy and wipe that none of mine could use without getting sore. I'm mentioning this as someone else has said the same and realise it may not be an issue for your little one as he is used to them. But then he may be a bit more sensitive than normal at the moment?
The only time my three had anything other than a bit of occassional redness was during teething and I know how awful it is when they are already a bit under the weather. They had a distinct acidy smell too so I know what you mean by that as well. I guess some babies are just more prone to this than others.
I've found a drop of lavender oil in a bath is quite soothing for sore skin and helps relax littlies too. Or as someone else has said, camomile - never used it myself but it's supposed to be good.
Hope he gets better soon - it is just one of those things though, nothing to do with you or anything you are doing. I think, as parents, we just like to feel we have done everything we can when they are not well in some way - like an overwhelming urge to intervene (or take their place is usually what I wish I could do).0 -
Another natural one my mother swears by is potato starch!! (Or the clothes starch used for ironing shirts etc.)
She says if you cut a raw potato in half, or slice it therefore getting more use out of one potato, and rub it on the nappy area it will dry and leave a white film over the skin. She reckons it worked wonders on us...0 -
I definetely agree with using Timodine, DS gets horrendous teething nappy rash, all the skin splits and bleeds. Timodine works brilliantly, more or less over night.**Trying my best to be the best that I can**

hello there
i can really sympathise with you. all 3 of my sons suffered from nappy rash. my eldest in particular. i used a cream called kamilosan (its for cracked nipples too). thats really good. i also found a natural alternative. my mum told me to use whisked up egg white. it goes kinda chalky on the babies botty but seemed to relieve the discomfort. i will keep my fingers crossed that you find a solution that works for your babe.

I found metanium the best cream for bad nappy rash. But can offer another possible piece of advice for the nappy changing times, I used to put olive oil in warm water and use cotton wool to clean with the oily water, seemed to clean better than just water and didn't seem to sting too badly.hth and that your little one's bum is better soon.Grocery challenge July £250

My third child developed a really nasty nappy rash, & the health visitor recommended the egg white.I too thought it strange, but the hv said they used it on bed-bound patients to prevent bed sores & because we had tried everything else & the only other option would be steroid cream, we gave it a go.
It works! Within 24 hours the redness had faded to a rosy glow & the little white pimples had shrunk. If I recall correctly we used it for three days, thoroughly cleaning with tepid water each time & going back to the usual cream after that.
The next time the rash started to show, out came the egg seperator & two or three applications was all it needed to stop it in its tracks.
Sounds odd, but then what have you to lose by just giving it a go & a lot cheaper than proprietory creams if successful.
Good Luck & give Little Dumpling a cuddle from me.xFull time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

My son used to get terrible nappy rash, especially when he was teething so you have my sympathy.
I can only reiterate what a couple of other posters have said - I really found my sons' nappy rash eased if I stopped using baby wipes for a while, and just used to use warm water and cotton wool. Not suggesting the wipes are the cause, but I reckon they must smart a bit if he's a bit raw down there. My health visitor also recommended Metanium, and I remember it working very well.
BTW, in the end I got so used to using cotton wool I stopped using wipes altogether. If I ever get round to having any more I don't think I'd bother with wipes at all.
It sounds like you're doing all you can. Hope your little boy feels better soon xx0 -
Hi there
just a quick note to say that when my little boy had a poorly tummy (gastoenteritus) he started to get a sore bum so everytime I changed him (used boots sensitive baby wipes) I put on loads of sudocrem and loads and loads of vaseline
also, while he was teething I gave him teething powders to calm down his temper and to stop his tummy playing up0
