Hello everyone, I just wanted to pop in and say thank you to you all but in particular to Ionafan.:A

I haven't been online much but I have been flyladying but after the great advice from Ionafan, I finally tackled the dreaded airing cupboard.:jIt took about 20 minutes in all, and it has done wonders for my zen.

    Thanks again

    Banwa:)

Well done for dealing with your frog, banwa :T Sometimes the tasks that we think will be quick and easy turn out to be complicated and time-consuming, but this is proof that the opposite can also be true :D

Congratulations on your new office, nicki :) Hope your hand isn't badly hurt.
I am envious of your twinks, dancemum  When I fancied a little treat with my coffee, DH had eaten the last of the treats bars and just left me the empty packet  - mind you, the packet would probably be nearly as nutritious as one bar :rotfl:

I am just settling down to work now. We were out all morning and I went hospital visiting this afternoon. I need to get our website finished!

See you all on the new thread.......

I have been trying to cut our grocery bill so the cupboards were more empty than usual so I decided to bake some goodies. I have to get weighed though tomorrow and have eaten more than I should have. :o

    Hello all

Thanks to the Fred for the first time in a long time, the house is fairly straight and tidy.

dancemum snap! I made twinks too this afternoon

I went for a walk along the beach this afternoon, I wanted to go to the countryside, but I've got problems with my knee and didn't want to risk being stranded in the middle of nowhere!

Managed to get some knitting done too this evening.

See you on the new fred

valli - could I have the 'veggie chilli in the slow cooker' recipe please?
This is one of my 'off piste' recipes...

    always -

2 x cans of cheap kidney beans, rinsed
1 carton of passata rinsed out with water; water added to SC also
    2/3 cloves of garlic, crushed
    1 onion, chopped
    about 3/4 carrots, sliced
at least one sweet pepper, sliced
either chilli powder or 2 chopped fresh chillies
a VERY generous spoonful of marigold powder
    salt and pepper to taste

    I might also add
tomato puree if I have any
a couple of sticks of celery, sliced
    courgettes sliced
can of sweetcorn OR baby corn cobs sliced
    tomatoes, if I have any

and I leave it to cook for at least 8 hours
if it's for non-vegetarians to eat I would also add a dash of Lea and Perrins (Hendersons relish would do for dee-dahs :rotfl:)

Glad the dinner went well Valli. It sounds as though you had it all well and truly under control - and doesn't that feel great!

Anyone got any fabulous pear recipes?

Pear tarte tatin (off piste also - I watched someone cook a tarte tatin on tv once and I sort of remembered it.)

You need a pack of puff pastry and a frying pan that can go in the oven or an ovenproof dish AND a fry pan...

peel and quarter/eighth your fruit (pears or dessert apples - I used to get free apples - the Vallikids actually became FED UP of this!!!!) and stick the slices in cold water with a dash of lemon juice to prevent browning.

Roll out the puff pastry to a circle to fir your dish or pan.

Fry the drained fruit in butter (a good knob) and add sugar - I have used granulated; caster and brown sugar; keep stirring as the sugar will caramelise. Say 2-3 tbsp. You're aiming to cook the fruit but keep it in the 'segments'.

Either arrange fruit neatly (or tip in, which I do) in your ovenproof dish or in the pan. Top with the circle of puff pastry and bake at 180 degfor 15- 20 mins until pastry cooked. Place a plate over and invert the whole lot so the fruit is now on top (take care - the syrup will be hot)
serve with cream or ice cream.

You could add cinnamon/nutmeg if you wish. Apparently this is not a recipe for Bramleys..

For a variation I might add soaked sultanas one day. I have made this lots and never used a 'formal' recipe;). This recipe is one of the reasons I buy chilled, whoopsied puff pastry; one pack would do 2 tartes tatin (about 8 inch)so if you DO buy whoopsied pastry freeze it in 2 portions;)

    ANYWAY....

I have cleaned the cat litter tray (ugh) and the bunny hutch. Once again rain water has seeped through the membrane (because it's a shoddy design with the membrane in 3 sections thus allowing water ingress) so I took it off to dry it in the sun (again) and kill the mould (again) and then I though s*d this for a game of soldiers, loaded to roof into the vallimobile, walked into p*ts at h*me and plonked it down and asked it I could talk to someone about it...(I didn't buy it; DS and his GF did, so technically I have no rights and I deffo have no receipt) anyway James (this is where I am saving his name;)) came up, said 'is everything all right?' looked at hutch roof, said 'obviously not' and I asked for a new panel and he said he would order one. So I await delivery into store...when the new one does come adaptations will be made before it's fitted. Like a one-pice membrane. Which will then be waterproof.
