Ok, this may sound a bit Heath Robinson, but what about a tension rod on steroids, like this one:

I have a shower curtain and a liner on mine. Would be too big to put through the top sewn channel on nets, but tab top or eyelet voiles would work fine. You can get slightly wider ones than this too, I just think this one's nice. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Trust me ... if there's one thing I understand, know, use a LOT it's those rods. I've used them in every rental for the last 7 years for instant privacy.
If it were daylight I could take some photos, but it's not. It's all very flat and streamlined/slim fitting.
OK, I believe you!No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
@ viva : yup, this whole thing has made me realise that I'm no longer prepared to grind out the hours in an industry I hate that doesnt even pay that well any more.0

PN, you were the one that found those blinds that fit into the window frame. Would they work here?
For measurements, you have to get it right. And I've put off doing it for fear of doing it wrong. I'm going to get one, £60 and see .. and if that fits OK, then I'll order the 2nd.
I had hoped I'd find a handyman that'd do the measuring/fitting for me, but that's not happened and now I've run out of time for doing "something".0 -

The problems are:
- width required
- availability
- serious time constraints (up and fitted by tomorrow)
The sheer width of the gap's the problem for anything that requires two uprights to hold it in place.
Also, as you've pointed out, it'd be too thick for the standard thing at the top of a net.
What I've done is a budget solution, that I could achieve today, for £12 (cost of net).
I spent a lot of time, some months ago, trying to find the widest ones and found that after 2m they stop being available.0 -
I just measured the gap .... it's 270cm roughly. Once they get extended they start to become a little unstable, so it'd take a 300cm fully extended one to be sufficiently stable when extended.
In old money that's 106", or 8'10" wide0 -
I love my "job" working for yourself has so many advantages I continue to make the most of my good luck because there is a shelf life to what I do. My wife is nagging me to find something new so like gen I am trying to find a path forward, and it's not much fun and I am more than happy to stick my head in the sand for a bit longer if I am honest.
Add me into the Yorkshire pud fan club too, not to mention desperately requiring curtains and curtain poles! The cat won't be amused by this either she likes a bit of early morning sun. https://www.dropbox.com/s/ig816aafdqs4qz3/2014-06-01%2011.11.43.jpg?dl=0When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0 -
Idea #3:
Business Consultant.
I know a lot of people doing similar things.
They usually seem to end up working harder than they did in the career job, for less money, and a lot less security though...
Have you thought of taking a low input/low stress 9-5 job to pay the bills while building up a side business over time? Public sector, non-profit, etc....“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

I'd favour this too. Either start something on the side of a rat race job or take something to keep a steady if modest income (a la viva). Until you find your feet at least. I'd definitely benefit from the extra piece of mind.0 -
I did see a post from Bugs on another thread a few days ago. I can't remember which board it was on, though.
NDG I'm glad your weekend was so thoroughly lovelyChatting with one or the other of my daughters - and my son, come to that - is one of my very favourite things. Hopefully they enjoy it as much as I do
I'm sure they do - or they wouldn't bother!
How old are your children? Do you have grandchildren?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
