Net wire and hooks/eyes in to wall not frame? Ikea does metal sets of wire and hook alternatives ...

I am toying with the idea of going to get fish and chips tonight. Mauve squeaker has been under G A for a scale and polish and I cannot find any white fish in the freezer to steam for her. She loves fish from the chip shop.

Gen - What are you having to mend?

PN I'm glad your solution works for you :) I was thinking of

basically they are plastic ones which you stick to the window frame, and they have a metal pin sticking out which fit into the holes in the ends of the rods.

We use these on our upvc frames - they do come unglued occasionally, though.

(Sorry, I tried doing what silvercar suggested, I typed "I was thinking of these" and wanted you to be able to just click on the word "these". but when I tried to follow silvercar's instructions the whole URL appeared :o so i must have done it wrong)

I just remet some people who knew me when I was a dot while I was collecting mauve squeaker from her scale and polish. They said they wouldn't have recognised me until I spoke to their dogs. I didn't remember them at all, but did remember an aunt. As they are retired this all felt odd.

Stay in touch they said...can we get your number through the vet? Yeah...I guess so....the dogs are gorgeous.

I went to the fish and chip shop which said it was open, it was not. So she's having steamed chicken.

Meanwhile, while i was out. A van came off my road and into my neighbours hedges and ditch down the road.

Minimum wage is $20/hr+ with 9% super on top which goes a long way to explaining it. Before and after school care is slightly cheaper, only slightly, but we can't guarantee that we'll be there by 6pm.

We have a girl in from 7:15am-9:20am and then 3:20-6:30 or 7pm at $25/hr. $25 is the going rate for unqualified child care. We have 2 unqualified uni students one of whom can't even cook and refuses to do any sort of housework.

Ah, I see. Your kids are being looked after at a ratio of 1:2. That explains it. DD's after school club has a ratio of 1:8, I think. If you were to get a less demanding but less well paid job, might your hours be such that you could leave a bit later in the morning and get back sooner in the evening so that you could put them in before and after school care? Or do you live too far away from the sort of places you might need to commute to? I live a mere 10-20 minutes from work, so that makes things easier as far as timing is concerned.
It only takes 25 minutes and 40 minutes respectively. Indeed, for a regular wash, I could drive to the launderette and wash/dry 3x as much stuff as using my own washing machine once and then having to hang everything to dry for 1-3 days on an airer. .... and still do that faster than just waiting for one regular cycle of my small machine (7lbs capacity I think)

For somebody speshul like you who feels the need to watch the washing machine while it runs, this makes a lot of sense. For those of us who get on with all sort of other stuff while the machine is washing stuff, the launderette is much more of a waste of time.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

I didn't mean to sound sad, I was just trying to get across the reality that when you put off "leisure" imagining some future time whn you can indulge yourself, that there are risks that non financial factors may scupper yourplans.

I am still a bit taken aback that my busy potttering about life has ground to a halt and i am not only housebound but inactive in the home and dependant on others.I expect to recover though so am OK but have only been home 2 weeks and it is all alien.

I have read your post several times......+ can't respond in any meaningful way except to send you good vibes. Very much food for thought too.

That's exactly what I don't want to have happen to me.

I want to take the opportunity that this warning of my mortality has given me. If the cancer comes back quickly and aggressively (not likely but perfectly possible) then I could be dead in two years.

I saw what happened to my Dad when he got sick: he saved all this money and what little Equitable Life left him he never got to enjoy. He'd have been better off weeing it all up the wall quite frankly. (Not that that's the plan).

I have also seen it with older family members and friends of friends. The snag is one can never know what is around the corner so we just get on with 'The Now' I guess.

I wanted to quote several other posts all with really good points but as making things is my only speciality I'll stick to that for the mo.

Ali Express / Ali Baba is awash with 'danger' and there are copies of our product (using our imagery of the original garment) that is only a few dollars and is totally rubbish.

The quality is so poor that I consider that they are actually overcharging for it. I know it doesn't fit properly BUT customers don't know that.

DD sources from a few Chinese factories and the quality control (at her level as she just buys small quantities) is very hit and miss.

The likelihood is that they use a quality brands images and then sell an inferior product. The only thing I know about sportswear is that it has to 'perform' so an inferior, cheaper fabric isn't going to wear well.

If you look at the childcare costs, being at home to manage the kids is 'worth' $600 pwk.
The idea of fitting something around them (so school hours and evenings) that is web based would be ideal (though a bit isolating). Snag is what could that be? ;)

I have always thought that you were very good at 'explaining' things. Would going into education at some level suit you? I know you would have to re-train but you do have a natural skill for imparting knowledge.

Food..it's one of your passions but I have no idea how that could generate a living.

I am going to go back and catch up on the thread and will try to think of something more constructive to say.
