FC are you saying that it is not possible to find a reliable wholesaler of cycle wear?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

If I just had to check, fine. But the terror..... I'll have to get over it though.... can't just not use it.
It's really strange. You sit next to French windows. So, in the unlikely event the washing machine has a problem, you can easily exit the house in utter safety. That is terrifying.
Driving to the laundrette, with all the risks that involves, and sitting in the Laundrette, where some psychopaths or muggers might be lurking. That causes you no issues.
This is risk analysis gone completely bananas! No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Hi GB...no, not saying that but A/Ex could cause more loss than profit ...finding one that isn't on there may be a better bet.
I can only comment on the copies of my own product as the buyers then plonk it onto Ebay / FB shops and then chase each other on price (as they all use the same picture....mine....price is their only USP so to speak).......
.....and then every 3 weeks I do a 'Purge' and send them legal-speak messages and report them....and they have to remove the product as it breaches my copyright.
I can't recall the import tax to Aus either as we used to have a couple of customers out there.I love my "job" working for yourself has so many advantages I continue to make the most of my good luck because there is a shelf life to what I do. My wife is nagging me to find something new so like gen I am trying to find a path forward, and it's not much fun and I am more than happy to stick my head in the sand for a bit longer if I am honest.

I know how you feel
I have but the problem remains the same: if I take a low paid job in the public sector I need to pay childcare. Childcare costs $600/week during term time and about $1,000 a week in the holdidays = $35,000 a year from taxed income = $45-50,000 a year of gross income. To get the same post-childcare income as I get signing on and doing the business around it I need to earn $90-100k. I am not going to get a low stress, simple job for that kind of money.
Without wishing to patronise anyone let alone you, people without kids almost always struggle to understand just how expensive working when you have kids is. That fifty grand always has to be found along with rent/mortgage. It's not even like food where you can live off cuppa soup and breakfast cereal for a week. Every single week that I work full time I have to bring in $1000 gross to pay for child care ootherwise I simply can't work. It's more important than any other bill because I can't leave the Generalissimos behind and work whereas I can work if I skip the rent for a week.
Working ineducation could be handy as the holidays would be in sync. How about a lecture / research type role?PasturesNew wrote: »If you keep it local, then you can pull in other streams of marketing/income - by using your bike. Use your bike to visit agents, use your bike to cycle out to viewings to spec out if a house is suitable. Use a GoPro type of headcam to record journeys, upload those to Youtube (minus the starting/end points). Take random photos of nice things, unusual things, tweet those photos. Everything you do leads back to your website/s.
e.g. at a market, spot food, take a snap, upload to twitter "recipe using this coming later" ....
Then all your life/activities leads back to your two income streams: attracting new customers for your house service + attracting new viewers for your food.
You can further monetise your business with targetted/local/relevant advertising, and even hook into local insurance companies for introduction commissions. And all the peripheral services used by people arriving.
The combined possibilities are endless. You will even wonder, at 3am as you're taking a wee, whether you should write about great bathrooms and bathroom ideas (taken from houses you've specc'd/viewed).....
And, of course, use your bike as much as possible and you've got your hook into selling cycling gear. Twitter: new jacket; Twitter: glad I was wearing this [photo of you in the pouring rain]

ah, I like that one a lot...in fact, if I could I would love to do something like that and earn a wage
Ironically, we have a similar issue with OH at the moment as we decided last week that moving at this moment is not a good idea.
He has been absent from the business for about 18 months now and only has about 1 day per week meaningful work with us now.........now there is no big house to sort out and we haven't got a spare chunk of cash to do the next stage of work on the cliff top house (and he doesn't want to do it in bits and pieces this time).......he has got to decide what to specialise in (carpentry wise).
DD is building him a website and I reg'd his domain today (blackheathcarpentry dot com

You posted a fabulous house on the cliff top in Margate. Did you buy that, but are staying in your old house? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

You have to have something that makes you money, by owning/making something, or selling a service direct ... and then work out the 3-4 income streams that can be blended seamlessly, so the 3-4 become one, with ease.
I've no core product or service ....
If Gen could be a Phil then his two interests cooking/cycling could be combined with the other so it all glues together nicely.
For you ... your income requirements are different (probably higher) ... but I'd be looking at putting together sewing workshops, and/or bringing together other sewing teachers to teach those short courses.... maybe a weekend workshop, residential, at the seaside
And, outside of that, various other similar skills workshops.... and, probably, even making equipment available (e.g. sewing machines) to people to use on an hourly basis to make their own stuff. So that's a bit of localism chucked in for good green/eco measure
I might also run a one day workshop on "Fashion from Found Objects" doing makeovers from stuff found in local charity shops or something (needs a bit of work there)....
Then, website, Twitter showing what people made, upload what they did/made to website .... spin offs with local fabric retailers, haberdashers and bookstores.
Once sufficient turnover's achieved (turnover of bums on seats), then run a big contest for people to come and vote for their favourite piece made - with a draw from all the entrants who voted for the winner giving them a free place on a workshop.
Good local/national magazine/newspaper PR going on in the background.
Blah, blah, usual stuff that works.... etc etc ... ad infinitum.0 -
There is money to be made in importing English made foods overseas.

All about the right product at the right price with the right volumes at the right exchange rate. Line up all the ducks in a row and it's easy, the trick is in lining everything up and getting the contacts at both ends.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Will post longer later.
English food importation is a saturated market. Sydney is full of empty shops selling Monster Munch and PG Tips.
Teaching as such is hopeless as there is massive unemployment amongst teachers. Unis are currently putting out 45,000 teachers each year more than are needed. I could become a lecturer if I got a masters degree and 2 years through my PhD. It doesn't really scratch the itch of working for myself.0 -
Anyone else watching Channel 4 - You can't get the staff?
I'm sure a lot of it is made up for the cameras, but really - how to iron your master's newspaper? I'm glad that's something nobody has suggested in library land (you can just imagine the health and safety forms), though shhh... don't say it out loud, or someone might suggest it for the stuff that we microfilm. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
