Anybody/everybody else watching the Beeny on 4?
Woman put her house on at £400k. Local agents suggested £300k, Beeny suggested £320k and she still stuck to her guns. No viewings yet.0 -
Is there not a square bead holding the glass in? These are UPVC doors?
The beading is very slim/narrow. Those expanding rods are quite large and you'd need a minimum of 1/2" solid stuff either side to expand the rail into.
Trust me ... if there's one thing I understand, know, use a LOT it's those rods. I've used them in every rental for the last 7 years for instant privacy.
If it were daylight I could take some photos, but it's not. It's all very flat and streamlined/slim fitting.0 -

That house I mentioned recently as the nearest comparable to mine been on market for ages has sold. I kind of wonder what for. I suppose I should check right move to see if asking price had changed before its removed. That was one hell of a long time on market.0 -

I checked, same asking price ( maybe plus another 50k cannot quite remember, maybe the fifty k was their givin negotiation figure).
Its a beautiful house. Far nicer than ours architecturally. But.....I feel comfortable the extra has bought building soundness but not interiors I'd want to live with. Which considering where I live is saying something. At least here its clear this isn't our taste!0 -
I saw some curtains today that were a lot nicer than the ones I ended up choosing, £54 in Dunelm Mill.
Yes, I've had a right old outing today. Went to the tip, Dunelm Mill, popped into the Range, Argos. A right old productive round robin.0 -
PN, you were the one that found those blinds that fit into the window frame. Would they work here?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. When DW had a council house they changed the windows, new windows went right to the top of the window opening which was right at the top of the wall and opened inwards, meaning it was impossible to have curtains as any sort of rail would get in the way of the windows opening...doh!I think....0

We've had food writing which got a Nice People No! and cycling gear which got a fair if slightly luke warm reception.
Idea #3:
Business Consultant. Go into businesses and help them reduce costs. Yup, there are loads of people doing that but I have a USP: no retainer, no fee beyond 10% of what I save the company over 3 (5?) years. Have a view on not getting rid of staff where possible, just buying things more efficiently and wasting less.
I don't have much of a network here but I know I can do the job as I've done it 3 times!
Upsides: potentially very lucrative. I know I can do it.
Downsides: financing it in the first place as me not working only really pays if we need little or no childcare. Back to working in an office and it might (or might not) make me feel like an employee again.
Please don't quote, will delete.
I run a business on a similar basis, but you need to know it is VERY lumpy. Ultimately it is why I am also at the library. That gives me an income that allows me to play feast or famine with the business. I have extremely good years and extremely bad years. What's your business cycle/pipeline? It takes a long time for the money to come out of the other end under such circumstances and take it from me, you'll factor in that cheque's about to drop and some other thing will pull the rug out from under you - eg they'll make a currency transaction loss on international business that wipes out 70% of the profit and you can do nothing about it. That's actually not my business, but that would be the parallel.I am a good example of someone who took the decision to reduce working time too late .I may now never be fit to work again and have a long road ahead of me before I can participate fully in family life.
my mum used to say "nobody owns tomorrow". do not evaluate on financial risk. qualityof life has an increased risk of impairment as you get older.
seven weeks ago I had a good income a happy busy home life a fair social life, could drive, regular holidays and treats. now I am struggling to walk, cannot dress unaided, cannot prepare a meal or walk my dog. If I could turn the clock back and remake some work life balance decisions I would.
This (imagine an up arrow)...
My cancer scare really made me evaluate what I want from life and the answer is, not being on the hamster wheel any more. It's about getting the balance between the quality of life that you want and the quantity of money that you need. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.
