Fair point re NYC. It looks an interesting programme. Sorry, meant to have posted a link. Here goes...

    http://www.channel4.com/programmes/tiny-house-nation

I should have mentioned that the programme is called Tiny House Nation, which certainly the US is not (as a whole). However respect is due to anyone who can live in 150sq ft as is the programme 1 scenario. 2 of us used to live in 364 sq ft and that was small enough.

I've just looked up the studio flat I shared with my ex - 294 sq ft.

The studio I had was 250 sq feet - the stereotype Barratts studio flats built in about 1980. But most of it was wasted due to poor design. As I was renting I wasn't in control of the layout/space, so just had to lump it.

Others in the block had converted the kitchen into a dinky bedroom - and used one wall of the living room for kitchen units. There was a large immersion heater taking up way too much space too, an entire large kitchen cupboard just for that - and the built in double wardrobe and dressing area (as they called it) was a good idea, but poor use of overall space.

Better not mention that the 5 of us spend well under £100 a week at the supermarket and that includes cleaning products, toiletries, stationary etc.

Two other houses we were thinking might make BTLs that have both been for sale for ages gone under offer in the last 2 days - is there some sort of property frenzy going on at the moment?

    I've been Money Tipped!
What is stationery? I don't buy any stationery, so clueless how that'd be included in a list of grocery shopping items.

You know that week in late august where they advertise back to school stuff.......

    Michaels has kids......:)

I also use stationary sometimes. I find cheap 'reporters' notepads very useful.

Ah. We never had that when I was a kid. Different world. We had one pen, one pencil case that'd probably last 4-5 years, some pencils/crayons and a rubber that'd probably last your entire school lifetime.

I've got stationery - some pads/paper from many years back... but I'd say my annual stationery spend is about 50p, so certainly not something I'd ever mention, think about etc.

It costs us a bloody fortune. They bring a list home that we have to fulfil. Maybe $100-150/year plus a little topping up.
