I'd be quite happy for him not to be. At least at the moment, if you put him somewhere and he doesn't like it, he can protest (loudly) but can't do anything about it, he's stuck. Once he's on the move life becomes so much more hazardous....
DD learnt to crawl the week before we moved house.
Glad you had such a lovely time with your family. I'm seeing mine next weekend. Well, my brothers and one of my sisters-in-law will be staying with my dad, and my kids and I will go all day on Sat and Sun (and maybe Mon if one of the uncles is still there) but sleeping at home to save him the trouble of putting us up. We're finally getting round to burying Mum's ashes. It's only been 3 years since she died. You can see what an efficient family we are at getting round to things...Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
It took me three years as wel, Lydia. I'm not the only one I know either. My aunt kept my grandma's ashes for quite a while before burying them. Quite probably a similar amount of time.
I don't think it's organisation, or it wasn't for me. It was about being able to let go.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

We've had food writing which got a Nice People No! and cycling gear which got a fair if slightly luke warm reception.
Idea #3:
Business Consultant. Go into businesses and help them reduce costs. Yup, there are loads of people doing that but I have a USP: no retainer, no fee beyond 10% of what I save the company over 3 (5?) years. Have a view on not getting rid of staff where possible, just buying things more efficiently and wasting less.
I don't have much of a network here but I know I can do the job as I've done it 3 times!
Upsides: potentially very lucrative. I know I can do it.
Downsides: financing it in the first place as me not working only really pays if we need little or no childcare. Back to working in an office and it might (or might not) make me feel like an employee again.0 -

How old are the kids now gen? In your plans something to consider is how much longer you will need childcare for. Saving money on childcare isn't really a saving in a few years time.....
What temporary provision could there be in terms of afterschool stuff etc?0 -

I meant it got a No! in terms of doing that for a living from Thursday week onwards.
Well the hope is that by the time the Generalissimos don't need childcare (they're 8 & 9) that any business would have built into something reasonably profitable. For the time being, family cash flows dictate that I can't afford the $600/week that I currently spend on childcare while earning $0 setting up a business.0 -
No reason you cannot start a food blog now......but no, it's unlikely to give you a living the week after next.
I understand you cannot pay current childcare on zero income, but at some point there will like be a sticking point..where you work for nothing or less in any new venture. Hopefully its really short lived. Other childcare merits consideration...that's why I asked about temporary solutions..so its not a weekly commitment. Alternatively you might be looking at a teenaged baby sitter, if you have any reasonably sensible teens about.0 -
Just went through the NP postings over the weekend.
3% of posts were about Generali's future ventures, 1% about some other stuff and 96% about FOOD.:)0 -

Hard, bloody work. Retainers are there for a reason, Mr Gen. The recurring 'yes' is the holy grail of business ownership. I would not allow any kind of pricing structure that left any room for argument because clients are not always as nice as you are.
I think food writing can work, but the business needs to rely on sales around it. Books, subscriptions, classes. Running a business is all about marketing. It doesn't matter what you do, you need to be able to imaginative in how you market it. And you need to be able to scale it and employ help when you need it. I don't like number 3 as much because you can't really employ people to be you when the business is you, so you're potentially away from the family as you have no choice.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I thought the cycle gear concept was great. You work from home and build it up, so very low risk. You can start off with a small amount of stock, which means Low margins but less risk. You do not need to go out and buy vast amount of stock from an unknown supplier just to get started. You build up a relationship with suppliers, find out what sells .... In six months, you'll know whether it is a winner or not.
Must be seasonal, but I don't know whether summer or winter is the peak season in Australia. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
