    I've been Money Tipped!
I'm really hoping its not flu. I'm mind ful I have to stay 'stable' as a condition to being considered for surgery. A flu could wipe me out for a while. :(

On the plus side I'm alone again from tues day for I don't know how long, so at least I can recover in peace.

    Hope it's just a 24h thing, LIR :(

I've just spent ages online, being indecisive about which photos to select for one of those fab offers for canvas prints. Got as far as the shopping cart for 2 different offers, and decided to go back to the first offer (you can only claim 1 offer). Uploaded the relevant details, and it seems to think I've already used my one offer - and won't let me progress to the shopping cart. It just gives me an error code. to indecision.

Life sucks. My tip would be: if you try to never buy stuff you're disappointed fewer times :)

Today, I was in Hertfordshire, the county of opportunity!

I walked part of the New River footpath, from Enfield to Hoddesdon. New River is a misnomer. It isn't new, as it dates from the 17th century, and it isn't a river. It is an aqueduct. It was originally constructed to bring water into London from Hertfordshire. It's not much of a footpath, either. :)
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Back to The General's musings on what to do next, I would quite like to reduce my hours. Currently I take about 3.5 days pay per week and put the rest into my pension so in theory I could work 3.5 days a week and be no worse off. Problem is I reckon those 1.5 days going into the pension are worth 3 days or earlier retirement so work less now = work for longer. It is also the case that although I am salaried my employer is exposed to feast and famine in their demand and in the past we have been given the choice of lay offs or reduced hours and there is no knowing if this might happen in the future so it also seems sensible to put the money in the bank (or pension) while there is the chance - which all mitigates against working shorter hours. Plus of course while it is not a problem spending less it would be nice to spend more, a reliable car would be nice as would a proper swimming pool n the garden....does any one have a clever way of assessing what they do now against the impact it might have far in the future?
    I think....

    Thanks for the feedback all.

TBH, I've wanted out of finance for more than a decade and now seems like a good opportunity to do it. Food writing full time seems like a loser but perhaps something I should dedicate lots of part time to. Don't think this is a sudden decision to get out based on the cancer or some such. Finance was always meant to be something to see me up to 40. I'm 43 now.

So another idea (I have loads). Cycling clothing in Aus is very expensive to the extent that when Aldi sell their annual cycling stuff at this time of year you get big queues outside the store. That makes me think that for 51 weeks of the year there's an unmet demand for cheap cycling clothes. Perhaps I should import cheap cycling shorts & jerseys from China and sell them via eBay and at cycling events.

    Thoughts?

Not ebay, I don't think. You can a bit, but a proper website with google ad words and some targetted native facebook ads at people who like certain cycling pages etc. I know someone through a group who is building his list by essentially giving away some really cheap cycling lights with facebook ads aimed at cyclists. They call them 'trip wires'. You can drill down hard on your target market there. Email addresses is what you want. I'm not sure if ebay provides that?

I've taken the Generalissimos to the club for the meat raffle again. I'm feeling poor this week so I only bought $20 of tickets. So far we've won a steak tray. It's about 3lbs of either sirloin or T bones.

I've been thinking a lot about my future. What do the nice people think of the idea of me chancing my arm at being a food writer? I like writing and am very passionate about food. I thought I could do a growing & cooking blog and try to turn it into a book/newspaper column.
I think its a fine idea, but not something to do instead of a job. :(. There are Hundreds if not thousands of people's trying to do this.......so its a popular thing.

OS forum rave about 'a girl called jack' ( jack Monroe) who did achieve it, her USp is making very inexpensive meals.

I'm about and will jot something down tomo as cycling clothing is something I actually know a bit about. Our micro factory in Leicester made the range for a niche cycling clothing company and my cousin in Canada used to cycle for the Canadian team.

PN's post sprinkled on top of Hamish's excellent post summed it up though....in fact Hamish's post was absolutely spot on.

I haven't written recently as I have had a few life *thwacks*.
My super fit Dad (82) has cancer and it's not lifestyle connected. This means we don't feel able to move.

You'd have passed very close to my parents - they live in that part of Herts. You should have waved to them :D

You're right about parts of the footpath, though :o

fc it is lovely to see you about again though I'm sad to hear of your circumstances. It's hard dealing with sick parents. Will be thinking of you.
