If anyone would like to buy shares in First Utility, now would be a good time to do so. I think my electricity bills are about to soar.

Not only do I have a houseguest, I now have a mahoosive tv

I would have been state of the art in erm... 2008 :)
A colleague has upgraded their tv, and asked if I would like their old one. As I was using an 22" Asda special UVC (no, I've never heard of them either) tv I've borrowed from my brother (think he got it when he was at Uni, quite some time ago) I said yes.

I now have a 42" plasma  I expect this has an energy saving rating of U. Probably help to keep the living room toasty warm though :) (and I'll actually be able to read when there is text and hear some bass)

We haven't got a plasma screen tv. Got one of those giant CRT ones that nobody could steal.Well if they could, I wouldn't want to try to stop them.

I remember when we got our first colour TV. Spent far too much time watching US colour TV shows that had movie budgets and spent more on their theme tunes than British shows spent on the whole show, like this and this. :D

I dunno. I haven't got used to the big tv in the cheese room yet. I just don't it when tv heads can be bigger than mine.:o

Yeah - as much as I do have the tv on a lot (to be fair I use it for the radio quite a large proportion of that time), I don't really want it to dominate the room. The other one was a bit small though - if there was something small to watch on the screen (e.g the football the odd time I've watched a match, or Sherlock - where there is fair amount of text on the screen) I'd have to sit right next to the tv to have a chance of keeping up (first world problem right there - living room too big for your tv :)).

This one sounds about a million times better too.

I dread to think how much it cost new :o

If I was buying a tv (I had been half looking at some of the deals that are on as everyone seems to be falling over themselves to cut the prices of tvs atm), I'd never have gone for something this big, but I guess I'll get used to it (I've tried a couple of times to make that more innuendo-proof and failed). And then struggle to downgrade in 10 years time or whenever I do actually get round to buying a new tv (which is now at the bottom of a very, very long list).

TVs are pretty cheap now. I bought a 42 inch plasma in about 2007/8. There is nothing wrong with it except the remote has broken. A new remote costs about £50 according to the internet. A new 42 inch LED TV can be had for a few quid over £200, which is not far off 10% of what the current one cost...

Poured very cold wine and filled out the form to renew my driving license photo 18 months after it expired, and to change it to my married name, nearly 11 years after marrying. That piece of paper has been in my in-tray for a very long time!

I always seem to get to a point with this bl00dy room where I can see the light, but never quite make it. I really want to do it today.

    Thanks for the support :)

I asked my parents if I could keep everything registered to their house till we bought.

With you guys moving so rapidly over a period of time you must have found it a bit of a head ache. I had put it married name I think for some reason....maybe not. If I did it would have been because I needed to send it off for points or something. Anyway, i did get it in married name when I moved if I hadn't before.

The difficult thing now is I find it hard to prove I'm mrs Rates and hard to prove I'm miss nee name, it involves lots of digging around. WE will get organised enough to get more personal bills in joint names. But .....it never seems pressing enough until its URGENT again.....:D

Just started on BBC4 - an "interesting" programme: Do we need the moon? Explains what it does.

Hmmm... Do we need the moon or Nanny McPhee/ Take Me Out? Spoilt for choice!

That (second) boxes solution is genius. I love the fact that you even have one with a shower in.

I'm blown away by it. Keep watching the video over and over.... My inner geek is endlessly entertained with that. .:)

Yes, you can have a local carpenter knock up some basic rack and tray system that will do a similar thing for a tenth the price, or a nowhere near as snazzy competitor system for half the price, but good heavens the swiss room box is clever.

What I like about it is that it folds up and can be removed in minutes leaving the interior completely standard. Useful if you then use the truck for a daily driver after your trip.

No idea/experience, but I think big TVs back then cost upwards of £3k.

Re big TVs. They've put a few where my mum lives. When I visited her I think she was trying to say (sentences start, but then tail off into a burble at the end) ... that she can see the new TVs from a long way away, but you can't hear them unless you're sitting as close as you had to before.
Don't know why you say she isn't all there, this is 100% true.

I suspect you could get a generic remote for a quid in poundlamd.

Visited a prison today and found myself thinking they could have fitted 2 prisoners in each cell rather than 1...it is harder to get away from work than you imagine.

One of the overpriced for sale houses in my road that came on in the last 3 days has already seen a price cut.
    I think....

I looked through the movies, but I could not find one where it rained. The whole system requires the users to stand around and do things outside the car, unprotected from the elements and any insects. How will that work with where you are planning to go?

Also, is there a loo in there?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    Ah....

    There's a solution for that.

And there's a rather low tech, but biodegradable and bury-able, solution for that too..... :o
