Hope DD better soon. Hugs to all of you.
    I haven't had much sleep! Sister's husband!

Ahhh! Makes more sense. lir's "complicated family" scenario did cross my mind, but you don't somehow strike me as the type to be inviting your OH's estranged husband round for a cosy dinner all together.

We'd had an argument by 10 am here :( Pretty sure it wasn't actually directed at me, but due to my absent sibling. I didn't rise to it (apart from the ceremonial throwing away of the present), and by 11am we'd opened up some fizz and were starting to prepare the vegetables.

We had a lovely dinner and are now watching Strictly. Phew!

We had the usual "late for church" stress, followed by a massive row between DS and DD about who was going to sit at the head of the table for the meal. With hindsight, at the first hint of disagreement I should have firmly insisted on taking the head of the table myself instead of doing what I did do, which was to wash my hands of the argument and tell them they could sort it between themselves. They now appear to have worked out some sort of rota to cover all festive meals for the next millenium, which has been written down and duly signed by both of them without any input from me, so perhaps they are learning some negotiating and compromising skills after all. Otherwise not much in the way of incidents here. Presents seem to have been reasonably successfully chosen, I'm glad to say.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Hugs to all who need them. From my experience it's more often a difficult, introspective time of year, rather than the type of thing you see in adverts/ on cards x

I would take Generali for a beer :)

Do they have a Relate in Australia? Being in love is one of those choices we make, I think.

Having lots of stress and no money is no help to marital bliss, but having someone impartial to speak to is pretty invaluable, even if one goes and the other doesn't. Having someone to help with depression is another important thing. The other partner can't fix it.

Love to you, Gen, and a potential beer if you would like, from tomorrow afternoon onwards, with someone who's been there and seen it and is okay. Or just with someone who likes beer

Merry Christmas NP, hugs to all who are living in interesting times, and Gen in particular.well done to NP who have found preparing for Christmas a strain but have got there in the end.

We did not go to church this morning and this meant we had a leisurely morning opening presents and eating Bacon Sandwiches.

I had bought Oh walking boots, for Christmas although I think it was the mouth organ in his stocking that he liked best.

Oh cooked lunch and it was terrific,I was so pleased as he worked really hard

g things have sounded rather taught in your writings.

I second doozer girls suggestion to consider some form of guidance if you are both open. Communication is always hard, especially during tough times and where depression plays a part. And communication seems to me to be key. And also while naturally my sympathy is with you my online big brother, I commend her for speaking up that things are awry. If all is up, then maintaining cordiality and friendship will pay huge dividends for the next gens, and other people in the future. So step one is win win what ever the out come is. As some one fairly loathe to engage in talking therapies I see this sort of thing as quite different, more dispute resolution, less navel gazing.

Edit: most importantly lots of love to you my friend.

Fir thinks he is going to explode. That says something I think.

Mainly that he had seconds or third helpings of everything mind you. We just left the table, we sat down at about five. ( those salmon things not included, they were eaten before with a bottle of champagne ) It was actually not tremendously abundant, but a gentle, leisurely meal taken as meals should be...with conversation and good pause. So, no starter, goose and veg with just over half a bottle of a lovely red, then a Christmas pudding with a glass of dessert wine, Then port and Stilton. ( not something I love or would have bought but a gift).

    Not even a coffee.

Unlike is to end with cheese, felt very British. :)
