Hibernating sounds good. I also hate the forced bonhomie of New Year's Eve. I guess we have that to look forward to now. Great opportunity to hibernate.

I'm hoping I can go round to a friend's house on New Year's Eve, as I have done the past couple of years. Otherwise my mum is angling for an invite round to mine. TBH I'd rather just get drunk on my own in front of the tv if a visit to my friend isn't an option.

    We shall see.

x2 for all of lir's post, but esp these bits.

From Sat I'm available for a beer/ wine/ cocktail/ coffee/ tea/ any combination of the above. Indeed I'll be positively looking for excuses not to do other things.

Hope you work things out. As lir also said, at least she's said something now. Hopefully gives you both time to work things through and get back to how you'd like it to be.

This. (Apart from being available from Mon instead of Sat, and then only if I can find somebody to have my kids, which may not be easy.) Sending hugs. hugging.gif
Hoping for the best for you both.

For the first time in 10 years I have somebody to spend NYE with (as well as my kids, obviously). A friend and her family who usually spend it on their own but might have neighbours round has said they'll either spend it with us or else include us if they invite their neighbours. :)
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Even though I'm not Inner Herts based, I'll wave back on behalf of any Londoners. I'm quite intrigued that Hemel is signposted on the M40, as it's quite a way away.

    Maybe it was Watford! :o

I'm sure he took the best 9! Sounds like that sort of a chap!

We've just had a great meal.Mussels galore! Tried rollmops for the very first time. They look and smell revolting. Now I've tasted them I realise I've wasted my life!
Not too many roast potatoes. Turkey plus a variety of ways to eat pig. Stuffed to the gills now.

Hi Maggie. I'm probably the nearest NP to your current locality.

I love moules....nom, nom, nom, nom, nom. When I worked on a campsite in France the moules seller used to come to the campsite once a week and sell (give?) us a bunch of moules. We'd line up half a dozen camping stoves and make moules marinieres for an afternoon snack, eaten with tons of fresh bread and some rough wine. Awesome.

Anyone know how to find out exactly where it is snowing in the UK today/tomorrow? In Aus I can go to the BOM website and see where the rain is using this:

I know the map to show where there is lightning, but that's not a lot of use to you, sorry.
    Edit:
    This any good? http://www.theweatheroutlook.com/twodata/uk-rainfall-radar.aspx

It's not 'any good', it's absolutely perfect (assuming it's accurate).

    Thanks very much hjd!:T

Is it snowing anywhere? Are you going to see the snow?

It's not snowing anywhere yet. I think we'll hold firm here today and if we don't get snow then we'll go hunting for it tomorrow. There's some hills just outside the village that often get snow if there's only sleet in the village.

The frost is still on the ground, even in the south facing gardens so there's a good chance that any precipitation will fall as snow.

Had a good day yesterday, absolutely shattered by the end of it though. Youngest was finding it difficult to cope with things as brother and his wife with their two year old were there and niece was being noisy (as 2 year olds are), so after perfectly trimming the broccoli so they all matched ( which gave mum a fit of the giggles), he escaped to his quiet room, stayed there until dinner and then escaped back there again. Barely touched his food though, he was too anxious/stressed.

We managed to do our video link to James for the present opening after a few technical issues at the start, lovely treat for us all and it was just like he was in the room with us, mum and dad were so chuffed as was ex mum in law when she came round...even if she did kneel down right in front of the laptop so that her face filled James' screen, we eventually got her to sit in the main body of the room, a huge relief to James!

Josh made the perfectly symmetrical pigs in blankets (every single one had matching mm's of borders and seams), although it was almost a trip to the local A&E at the start of the day when he fell down the stairs with a bag of presents! Thankfully he was ok and so were the presents.

Mum banished dad to the front room, he was creating havoc in the kitchen while she and I were trying to do the dinner, James suggested we tie him down and a comment from me at that (grandad would think nan was up for kinky sex if she did that), sent mum into another fit of the giggles which lasted a good 15 minutes.

Both me and mum decided that next year, we will def go out for dinner...despite all the boy's and my help, it is just too much for them both and they won't hear of Christmas day present opening and festivities being held elsewhere (not that any of us have a house big enough either). It is also too much for me too, I could barely move by the time dinner was ready and was so tired by the evening that driving home was a challenge.

All in all though, a good Christmas day with lots of laughs, some sad moments (dad's toast remembering absent friends and his failing health) and more memories made.

To top it all and make my day....I got Frozen sing a long DVD!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Fir actually went over his gluttony limit yesterday and was uncomfortable last night.

He lay on the bathroom floor saying ' never again, Mai piu!'. Not a man of great resolve, when he was able to stand up again he tiptoes down the back stairs for a plate of goose, parsnips and stuffing and a honeyed pear.

However, i cannot talk. I feel much the same 'Mai pui' to Christmas. Its been rather difficult and emotional at times. As I have said before, I don't set much store in gifts at all and don't mind receiving nothing, but one parent wrapped the old phone they had already offered me ( just don't wrap it) then took it back because not finished with it yet. The other gave me a portrait of themself. I mean, its nice and all but......

There was also drama in fir's family when two people had agreed to spend the holiday season together then one flaked on the other ( sil) who was left alone. We had already invited sil to spend it with us but she was honouring her arrangement with the other person and felt awkward to call us and embarrassed she's been flaked on. Anyway, she found friends to spend time with for a week.

There is so much pressure at this time of year to have a reliable family and strong friend network, opits easy to feel freakish if its simply that the people around you are a bit....self interested or whatever. I agree with GDb on the pressure of the time of year.
