My dad is starting to seem old. Everything about him is slower than it used to be - both mentally and physically - although he's still very capable: still driving, can walk quite a long way and managed fine when he lived here and looked after my kids while I was away at the inquest. His sister, OTOH, is rather more physically limited - walks with a stick and has had to give up driving - but as quick witted as she's always been.

    He's 88 and she's 92.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

So we've been and gone from the tax accountant. $4,000 back between us for 2013-14 and not sure how much for 2012-13 yet. Probably more like $2-3,000.

Then on top of that we get family tax credit Part B. Family tax credit is split into 2 parts here: Part A goes to the badly paid and unpaid. Part B goes to them plus people eaeniny up to quite substantial sums. The level of middle class welfare over here is mind boggling.

    Fantastic news!

Gen, yesterday's FT had an article about the Aussie Superannuation fund needing 50 investment staff. I'm sure it's in the news there too, but thought I'd mention it, in case that's useful to you.

Two random questions...why don't I have a signerature that looks like a stream of swear words. And do those with such a signerature see it with loads of exclamation marks or does it look normal to them?
    I think....

Great news about the result. Best of luck for the tiredness test.

Yours looks normal to me. So does mine.

My parents are 72 tomorrow and 74 in December. Dad before his strokes but after his heart attacks, was still quite mobile, full of energy and well but the repeated strokes have had an impact and this year, he is starting to seem and look like an old man. Before his heart attacks, he would walk miles, was not overweight and danced the jive like a 20 year old...his heart attacks were more stress related than naughty lifestyle choices.

Mum is not quite as mobile as she used to be due to her joints but in everything else, she is like having a 40 year old mum, she doesn't look anything like her age and certainly doesn't act like a 70+ year old. She is as far away from a little old lady you could get! Mind you, I think she has good genes, my maternal nan at 90 could have easily passed for a woman of 60 and was still doing high kicking can can at the age of 87, outdancing my friends at my wedding.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

We all seem to be unwell don't we? Went to a physio appointment yesterday for an ongoing (sine jan 2013) back problem, suspected disc lesion so off for an MRI in the next few weeks. Hoping I don't need surgery, I hate hospitals having spent far too much time in them.

I hope it goes well. My impression is that the surgery is very much a last resort.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
