I love roasted beetroot too. Actually I planted (then have neglected) some beetroot - should really have a look at it and either replant or harvest (or get rid).

One of my favourite pics from my recent hol is of my parents wearing plastic bibs. They surprised us and ordered the most expensive thing on the menu (some seafood extravaganza). They look giddy drunk, but we'd not had a drop to drink at that point. We were just having a lot of fun

I've found that mostly they just "snap off" once you get hold of the edge of a slice and pull it away. Otherwise, if that didn't happen, an edge of a knife inserted and twisted a little would break them up.

We have a double birthday tomorrow. Two of our children were born on 16 November, 5 years apart. So, DW has banished me from the kitchen, so she can make a birthday cake for one and a birthday pavlova for the other. I'm sadly not allowed to help.
