    I've been Money Tipped!
Just been to check my leaf coralling results... I put it in place when it was windy/dark and I couldn't be bothered to get it perfectly right - but, it's managed to trap a pile of leaves about 1 cubic foot. Now I can see the next issue to resolve - the corralling brings them up to the house wall. So the next stage is to find something to lean against the bottom 4-6" of brickwork so wet leaves don't sit and fester there.

My trug had 1" of water in it (maybe a tad more), so there was a heck of a downpour at some point - that might be this morning as the roads were flooding when I was driving this morning.

So now I've got an amount of wet leaves, in a pile, that really need to be moved to the next stage... next stage = gather and put into something so they can be taken to the tip. I've been pricing up pop up garden bins, but they're £10, so hesitating. Also, I don't want to be putting wet leaves into any bags.... I've also not actually got any black bin liners at the moment either. Been pricing those up too, they're not cheap are they!

time to meet a neighbour who is a keen gardener and collects leaves for leaf mould or at least makes their own compost for garden use.

Over half our libraries are going to shut in Liverpool.  And the majority of the ones closing are in the North of the city, where deprivation is worst. I could quite happily string our mayor up from a lampost! :( At least one young girl has started a petition. Good for her! :)

In Liverpool we are only keeping 8 libraries, and closing 11. There's a map on where the closures are here.

I think the idea here is to get shot off all those expensive librarians and just use community groups. A lot of the libraries that are threatened are interesting architecturally, and have interesting histories. Here's a blog post about one of them.

In Hertfordshire the proposal is not to shut any libraries, though there will be greater use of volunteers. In the neighbouring authorities, library authorities have closed libraries. Here no. If anything, the proposal is to invest in better facilities where they no longer meet the needs of the community (co-location again). I don't think authorities are getting it right everywhere though. That's why I think Herts is being brave and strategic. I'm sure they won't get everything right for everyone, but it's interesting and different to what is happening elsewhere. I should also mention that the Hertfordshire plan will cut the mobile service.

The reality is local authorities can and do choose to spend their money in different ways.

BG won't be coming, I'll use "local bloke" probably.... and I feel quietly confident that michaels' description seemed doable, so long as I can get an EXACT match for the one I'm now carrying in my bag everywhere until I find one :)

Actually, the best money saving can be had by not replacing it at all. You said that this one was in the kitchen, and you do not want the radiator on in the kitchen. Without the head on it, the thermostatic valve is fully open at the moment. If the radiator is not hot, that is because the lock shield valve at the other end of the radiator has been turned off. (If not, it is an incredibly safe and easy job to turn it off.)

If you do want to replace the head, I suspect that the original one is no longer being made, so I cannot see much point in carrying the old one around.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Myson-Contract-Thermostatic-Radiator-Replacement/dp/B00GNBMHEC This one is supposed to be a simple replacement. It has excellent reviews on Amazon, but it is £13.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

The five things that would make me more likely to use libraries are:

    - open more evenings/weekends
    - free on site parking
    - get longer than 30 minutes on a PC free, have enough PCs that you don't have to pre-book, have PCs that take less than 10 minutes to load up and are so exceedingly slow at working that the librarians have to apologise about them when you arrive
    - have more books for adults, on adult subjects where you're learning things (non fiction stuff, "How To" books etc).
    - make it easier/quicker/free to get inter-library loan items. Last time I (paid) for one of these for a course I was on (OU), the course had finished two months before I got a note that the book was available now.

Oh, I didn't realise it could be turned off - but I do want to retain the option of turning it on, e.g. if there's a bit of a cold snap and I'm going away..... so I'd like to have the option of twisting the knob and heat coming out :)

That Amazon one was the one I came up with - but then I figured "everything on Amazon is more expensive than elsewhere" so I started Googling for other suppliers.

That one, with the all black writing (no red) is precisely the one I've got.

I love the way everyone gets a bold name check except for LIR who no doubt doesn't on the grounds that her ears are a bit delicate today :)

:rotfl: Actually I did put "lir" in bold type, but not in capitals. Hopefully her ears are feeling a bit better today.

They are thank you, a lot!

No ringing. Only a bit of pain in the right one.

Grrr, till I thought about it, so now psychosomatic pain on the left. Unless I only just noticed it.

    Anyway, nothing to worry. Bout.

I'm de cluttering my makeup hoard today.

One of the things I cannot bring my self to chuck are the stars I used to glue to my face. I cannot see why. Its hardly as if I plan to do it again, after all it would be ridiculous.

See, two jars of them.....left to use. I used to glue them to my face with eyelash glue, which worked on these much better on eyelashes.

Otoh, I was really disciplined and chucked all the mascaras which have hitherto evaded me. I have to be more rigorous than normal because of the rosacea/blepharitis issues. I chucked every last one and bought a new one yesterday. I'm going to try and remember to replace this one no later than march, but sooner if I get another blepharitis or bad ocular rosacea flare.

My make up box I've had for about fourteen years, its an antique tool box. Its practical nature and beat up appeals to me. Feels some how appropriate for the job it now has,

All the more reason to keep them then :D

Why not? Could brighten up the day. Or you could camouflage yourself and hide in the sparkly corner :)

    Hic.

They often have branded chocs too. Last time I was in the one here they had Ritter Sport, which is fairly well known and very nice (I can vouch for it).
Posh alert? Knowing any brands of choc other than cadburys far exceeds my capabilities. Except nestle....and Mars...and Rowntrees...Thorntons and Lindt. I'd better stop now :o

Good to see you back lemonjelly! What are the gigs in November?
Off to see Terry & Gerry tonight.
James (rescheduled show that should've been July) on the 10th.
    Son of Dave on 13th.
    Alan Davies on 14th.
James (proper scheduled tour gig) on the 20th.

I also had a bonfire/fireworks display I went to last night, & an appointment to do a will next week.
I hate wine, I dislike all wine. I don't drink wine.
    ...
Of course, the trouble for me is that it takes about 1/2" of booze in a glass to get me squiffy, so no point drinking alcohol on that basis.
I actually quite like wine. The only alcoholic drink I find I can enjoy.

On candles, whilst sorting some of the remaining bags/boxes today, I've sorted some (rather aged) candles I've had for years. I plan making something chritmas centre-piece-y out of them.
