Had our heating on for around 30 minutes on Tuesday morning as it was frosty.

Mine is on again this morning. Dropped to under 5C out last night. Autumn is well and truly here.

  • This is my first winter living in a house with thermostats and proper insulation. I never used to run the central heating in my old place, as the insulation was almost non existent (plus the gap between the front door and the floor was big enough to put a hand through) and the heating itself was so inefficient you had to run it for an hour for the house to get warm and then when you turned it off it was freezing in about 10 minutes.

New place was only built last year, so should be a fair bit better. I've got programmable thermostats in the front room and master bedroom, for now I've set both to 15c as I have no idea what that'll be like but I prefer things to be on the cool side. The temperature in here at the moment is 17c (it's 11c outside) and the heating has not come on yet since I've lived here. On Friday night I had to sleep with the window open because it was too warm.

I know someone who has their thermostat set at 28 degrees all year round.

lstar337, I thought you are in an A rated dwelling. No heating till Nov at earliest surely? :p
Yep, I'm in the south west and no heating on yet. I will be interested to see how long it lasts, but the front room is still around 23c when we leave for bed.

I was there yesterday Andy. Around midday weather was fine, then it got grey, then it chucked it down! Had to hide in Currys for it to settle down! Lol.

Currently have all radiators expect living room, bedroom and bathroom on lock down,, we boost for 1 to 2 hours at night, but for the morning , only the bathroom radiator is on timer , rest back on lock down, so the bathroom is lovely and toasty in the morning and with warm towels after the showers then straight off to work !!

When it starts to get to minus figures then all radiators will be on timer/thermostat control in the evening and in the morning.

Can change very quickly here (as you saw) with showers coming in off the channel. Few more miles inland - nothing.

I wasn't going to, but the room stat is on 17 and it came on overnight downstairs. Dog was happy, he's been sulking the last few nights.

For the first time this year we have decided to put our coal fires on.
However not used the central heating yet!
  • Watching the F1 race at moment, up here in South Yorks, room is 12c..no heating needed whatsoever. I may put a bit of heating on when I can see "steam" from my breath but only to raise it to 14/15 c. Laughing at some of you "wusses " on here
