Anyone putting their heating on yet....

I don't "put the heating on". This is the 21st Century!
Yeah, but some of us have prehistoric heating systems! Ours does need to be switched on, with only thermostats on each radiator to control the temperature.
And we have an oil heating system which costs a fortune to run.
We have had it on for an hour here and there but not much at all which is great considering we are into October. I am careful, but refuse to sit in a house thats freezing.0 -
I caved and switched our timers back on on Wednesday, we'd spent 2 nights covered in blankets on the sofa but we had company that night so I felt obliged to keep everyone warm. Plus our bathroom is an extension to the property and so has 3 external walls and a flat roof so it's nice to wake up to warm bathroom before having a shower! I've left the thermostat at 20°c at the moment which doesn't leave us feeling toasty but keeps the chill off, and if it's a warm day/evening it won't come on until it gets colder. We only have sash windows with no double glazing so I don't feel too guilty about having it on already!£12k in 2019 #084 £3000/£3000

Sadly we have. I do two mass twiddles of TRVs for the morning and then evening heating periods, 50mins each. Also, wood burning stove goes on at 5pm and that also gets the hall and landing to a comfortable temp. Expecting install of Heat Genius soon.
We have much to do in our newish house, insulation and air tightness wise. With a nine month old it's not so easy to find the time... But slowly getting there. Tomorrow's project: fit an external post box and block off the front door letter box.
lstar337, I thought you are in an A rated dwelling. No heating till Nov at earliest surely?0 -

Don't complain about the extra cost, think of all those lovely Green Taxes and the money they're making for the people in charge. Just the Green Taxman in chief, Ed Dafty who went on to avoid paying Green Taxes.
Along soon, will be smart meters, that we will told will save you money. Sure they will, if you wasn't to switch the heating off in the middle of winter at 7:00pm and wait until 3:00am in the morning when it is cheap again and not so punitive.
Don't worry that the smart meter will meter you and your details flogged off and you are constantly monitored.0 -
What people don't realise is that 18c in a cold hallway equals 22c in my lounge so supreme comfort for me0

Its been quoted by health experts as to one of the reasons the UK is so obese. Heating rooms artificially as if its summer in the middle of winter is one way of gaining weight because we all use less calories sitting around in a tropical hothouse. Having your rooms at a normal temp in winter around 14 c would be fine, 21c is plain ridiculous and not needed at all, your body would soon adapt and burn more calories.0

I don't have the obese problem
I eat a balanced diet, lay off the suguar and refined carbs and get moderate exercise and take the stairs when the fatties waddle onto the escalators with their pasties flaking around their mouths
In all seriousness unfortunately for low income families refined processed food us accessible due to limited budgets.
It's a self perpetuating problem, that diet makes you feel terrible so you keep eating sugar and chocolate and you have no energy and no get up and go. Diet is key and I'm sure heat does play some small part as I also remember reading the body burns fat for warmth0 -
I live in sheltered accommodation, we have had the heating on 6 weeks, we all pay £6.24 a week. happy days0

I don't have a thermostat but the thermometer in my living room is usually about 18/19C when the room feels comfortable. Would be far too warm if my bedroom was at that heat. No it isn't on yet.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -
