....or thinking about it?

The weather this morning said that next week (or Sunday night) is going to be a good time to start putting the heating on. :D

Obviously I will be holding off for as long as I can take the combined complaints of SWMBO and DD. :rotfl:

I have just started putting the heating on this week, but I am conscious of the cost, and I am keeping an eye on the meter to see whats its costing me.

Mine went on a good few weeks ago but only boosted for an hour or so

I can't stand being cold so when the rooms go below 18 absolute minimum the heating goes on

This comes up every year and we get more and more extreme posts about the room temperature they tolerate before heating is switched on. iirc 8c was the lowest.

I post this article each year:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/5372296.stm
24C - top range of comfort
21C - recommended living room temperature
Less than 20C - death risk begins
    18C - recommended bedroom temperature
16C - resistance to respiratory diseases weakened
12C - more than two hours at this temperature raises blood pressure and increases heart attack and stroke risk
5C - Significant risk of hypothermia

Personally I like the temperature to be at least 21C when sitting down watching TV etc.

I don't "put the heating on". This is the 21st Century!

It has a programable thermostat. If it is below the pre-set temperature (21C) at the times the house is occupied, it turns itself on.
  • No, still got 3 windows open all day and 2 windows on latched open at night, its still at 22°C until long past 2am - mind you I'm from the north of England. :D

Mine has been on for the past 3 weeks.

"I put mine on" because I have a pilot light that eats 5 kWh of gas a day so I turn my heating off for the summer.

Well unfortunately 'death risk' will have to begin here as I can't afford to keep the house that warm and we are lucky to get it to 19C even once the heating is on in the evening. Just looked at the thermostat and it is 18C here at present and I do feel a bit chilly but not putting it on yet.

The system has no off position, just Comfort and Eco, which are usually 16 and 14 degrees in the summer months.

I manually dial it up a few times in the summer to exercise the valves and motors. Don't want to find out in December it's all seized up.

Personally I like the temperature to be at least 21C when sitting down watching TV etc.

I was reading some older threads on here about what sort of temperatures people have their houses at. Many were "claiming" to have their thermostat set at 17-19c. Which simply amazed me, as I find anything below 21 is fairly chilly for the lounge, especially in the evening. I thought there must be something wrong with me.

I think many people have their thermostats in the hall where it's going to be 3-4c cooler with all the airflow and then assume that's the temp in every room.

Having said that, people can acclimatise to different temperatures. My brother is too conscious of heating bills so he never puts his heating on and I swear when you go to his house you can see your own breath and he sits there like normal! Its warmer outside. :rotfl:

At the moment I'm manually putting my CH heating on just to keep the lounge at 21-22 in the evening.
