I change because I'm a techy and its my passion. iPhones keep their value so well that you can buy/sell without the same sort of outlay as you get with other devices.
So you're saying that an iPhone is cheaper to upgrade than other brands...

Never heard of anyone watching a film on a mobile so I'd never consider that a requirement for a smartphone. Being pocketable and able to use one-handed would be a big priority.

Normobs care about specs because they don't understand what they mean and they get wowed by quad-core this and 3GB that. Techies like me understand that those specs are essentially meaningless because it's the software that counts.

Umm you replied to a post on the matter and recommended using an iphone?
Do techies like you blanket recommend an iphone for every situation?

If you can afford one, definitely. if you can't afford one, save up until you can.

Actually I'd say Apple's hardware is very nice, and some of the best in the industry, but what sets them apart from the rest is their software and operating system. There's just no other company who can touch Apple on that front at present.

Well, that's precisely what it does for all of those people.

Yes, Apple's hardware is good but not uniquely so. For example the HTC one was widely thought to be the best made smartphone for quite some time.

Certainly in terms of iOS apples offering has fewer features and in its latest incarnation is slow and buggy. The real advantage Apple has is the quality of the apps available for iOS although android seems to be catching up.

In reality there's not much to separate Apple's products from other manufacturers apart from personal preferences. I own a range of gadgets including some apple products but if they went out of business tomorrow I'd have no problem finding an equivalent alternative.

That's funny because from my experience Android is the poorer experience. iOS has been great for me, and enjoyable to use. Android is a battle at times. It tries too hard to be a computer in your pocket instead of a smartphone. Windows Phone is better, but not quite at iOS levels.

Sadly there's currently no decent alternative to iOS. I could use Android and Windows Phone, but I wouldn't actively pick them when there's better available. Sadly, most people who don't know better think that Android and WP are equivalent to iOS. It's just ignorance, nothing else.

Hopefully as manufacturers start abandoning Android once they've realised they're nothing more than pawns for Google, we'll start to get some better alternatives.

Perhaps you should ask Siri. You seem to be struggling. You recommended using an iphone as the best for watching movies (in the context of phones & tablets)
Then said you had never heard of the idea. Now its down to saving up and specs dont matter, except to those 'techy' people like yourself who really understand?

Where did I say smartphones were best for watching films? The cinema is the best place to watch films, followed by the large TV in your sitting room.

In your opinion. Some will agree with you others will disagree.

My personal opinion is that for what the majority of users do on smart phones and tablets i.e browse the internet, go on Facebook, watch movies etc they are heavily overpriced.

I don't. I think they'd be better off getting an iPhone.

I have quoted your own post for you.
So once more. You have dictated the iphone is the device to get on all fronts.
    So only cinema/TV for movies
Facebook i assume is laptop/desktop only?
    Internet browsing the same?

Do you understand what people use their phones for these days?

I've seen plenty of people watching movies and alike on their smartphones on the train. Certainly they're not the best but their obvious portability brings them into this market.
