What's so terrible about paypal?
I can understand your frustration but its really ebays fault in my opinion, Im not saying you would do this but consider from the sellers point of view:
They make an item for you that is really only any good to you as its made to your dimensions.
They send the item and get tracking so are protected against Item not recieved claim
You recieve item and decide you have changed your mind so open a SNAD claim (I know people shouldnt but they do all to regularily).
Ebays wonderful automated system asks you to return item and puts a hold on the sellers money
Item sent back tracked and paypal refund you, seller is now left with an item that is now almost impossible to sell.
This has happened to me although the money was considerably less than what you are talking about and thats why i decided to stop selling custom made items on ebay0 -
just a thought occurred to me if the material is that difficult to get hold of would the seller be willing to sell the material to you and you then find a local person to make them up for you?0

I can't afford to lose £300.
Then I suggest you read the advice offered and decide what you want to do . It cannot be clearer, unless you use PayPal you have no *easy* way of getting money back if it goes wrong. You do seem to be asking some quite naive questions here, which is perhaps another reason to walk away and find a different fabric somewhere and a different seller.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If you wish to go ahead and pay by bank transfer, then make sure you have the sellers full name, address, phone number etc...
That way, should you not get what you paid for, then you can go down the small claims court route.
With paypal, if it arrives and is wrong or faulty, it is easy to open a case and get a refund, which cant be done by bank transfer.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I'm not at all happy about effectively sending cash. I'm going to try one more message to the seller and then give up if they won't budge.
As Soolin said if they make it properly and are confident in their product there shouldn't be any issues.0 -

The issue is that they don't trust you. That's entirely separate from the quality of their product.
(And it doesn't seem to be personal against you; they've just been burnt before)0 -

So they make them to your specifications and you have accidently given them a slightly wrong measurement...and you decide to screw them over by sticking in a claim...you get your money back and the seller is screwed?0 -

They said they would make me a specific listing that shows the exact measurements etc and then I would buy that so as long as they made it exactly as per my measurements I would have no grounds for a not as described claim would they?0
