im trying to order a made to measure item from ebay. the cost is in the region of £300. the seller is being very difficult and refusing to accept a payment by paypal as they say they have been scammed before. i have offered to pay via paypal balance rather than with a credit card but they are pnly prepared to accept a bank transfr or cheque which im not happy with. they have 17000+ feedback and are the only people selling what im looking for.

    what can i do?

I'm with Soolin on this one and would walk away.

Paypal and eBay go hand in hand and i am suspicious that 17000+ people haven't questioned this for such a high cost item.

I would report them to eBay for refusing to offer PayPal.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

They sell home furnishings cushions curtains etc. most of hat they sell is under £50 so I think most of the 17000 is for that which they will take paypal for. I'm wanting very big heavy full length curtains from a now discontinued Laura Ashley fabric hence the £300 but am worried that I have no protection doing it this way.

Unless you pay by PayPal you will have no 'easy' protection if seller fails to deliver your items, or doesn't make them as specified. If seller does provide shoddy goods then you would have to chase them down via small claims, with no guarantee of your money back.

If they won't take PayPal report them to eBay and walk away.

So you want them to make you a set of unique sized products from materials that are no longer made, and you can't see why they'd want non-reversable payment up front???

Just do the bank transfer and wait for the curtains to arrive.

    I don't understand broker dave
  • I totally understand in this instance why the seller wouldn't want to accept Paypal.

However, I personally wouldn't feel comfortable buying from them without the protection of paying by Paypal, for an amount of this size.

It's your call, OP - are you happy to take the risk or not? Only you can decide.

Sometimes buying off ebay is not smart. If I was the seller I wouldnt want paypal either - think it is terrible. But if you are nervous, and cannot do cash on pick up then best bet is buy from a retailer.
