good luck PP. nows a good time of the year to start ...
well I seem to have been running round in circles this last week !!
mum was told by a nurse at the GP's over a week ago to stop taking a pill [hospital prescribed it whn she was in last] something to do with her BP and pace maker ? well , lo and behold mum has had 2 "funny turns" since ... she queried this but doc never rang her back ! so I got on the blower and gave them the preverbial rocket up the jacksy !! doc rang her back in 5 minutes and resumed the tablets ?? beggars belief that they just go against 2 weeks of investigations during her stay in hosp !
apart from that I still have BIG dog here and sadly seems no interest shown ..... I may just end up with him [he is a big goop really]
I have been mowing and weeding , trimming and planting ... garden is half done now !
fields are looking good for hay this year ,,
horses are like butterballs !
hope you are all having good weather although we haven't hit the predicted temps yet here .
I had my car booked in for a home valance today but he couldn't make it ... BUT , bit like going to the hairdressers, I had cleaned it up before hand inside as it really was disgusting ! so I do have a cleaner car than yesterday !!0 -
Thanks everyone
The house should have been ready to go on the market weeks ago really, but I've been dragging my feet as I'm dreading the whole process. Means to an end though...
choille, yes it's Argyll & Bute we're moving to. My DH is already living and working up there so we just need to sell this place and all move up, lock, stock and kitty
Dave, skinny-dipping in Loch Awe sounds fun :rotfl:
alfie, hope your Mum is doing ok. I went through a similar experience and it's so worrying when you don't know whether it's the hospital or the GP doing the right thing with medications
Lovely morning here, so hopefully get the lawns cut and the garden looking tidy ready for next week.
Have a lovely weekend, daydreamers.'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
Hope Mum is improving Alfie.
PP - best of luck with it.
Dull here & windy. It's been a cold spell with loads of rain however doesn't seem to have put off the NC500 speedsters as the roads are very busy & all the lay-bys filled with campervans. The garden is neglected but the shrubs are in bloom and the bees are buzzing when not getting drowned.0 -
Hope the restoration of Mum's meds have done the trick, alfie and fingers crossed on the house sale PP....As alf says, it's the best time of year....if not the best year!
Our ensuite is completely stalled now: the plumber's booked for an op this coming week and won't be fit again till the end of June. I'm no longer bothered, as we have a few 'heavy' weeks coming up....I think I'll be well-frazzled by July and ready to take the rest of the year off!:rotfl:
We had the big Fair in the village yesterday, so that was all we did, though I nipped home and made a curry in the middle of the day, knowing it would be 9pm by the time we'd packed the stall away and watered-up. It was a great success, with some new events, like falconry and belly dancing!
We even had a fly past by the Red Arrows, but being Deb'n, they were 50 minutes late, approached from behind huge trees and took everyone by surprise. I think a few may have pictures of the vapour trails.....
DW was in her element, selling plants again, and it was fun setting out the stall properly for possibly the last time. We'll go on clearing stuff at the gate when we can, but for the next few years I want to focus on our own garden, or it will be too late!0 -
Just when I thought things were completely hopeless and stopped caring....lo and behold, we have a plumber!
A friend's son, normally working in a posher part of the county, is over this way on a long contract job. Hearing of our plight, he volunteered to fit us in, working afternoons over a week or so. :j
Already I can see a difference.We are getting proper liaison and...choices!0 -
That's great news Dave, you may have to send him this way as im getting suspicions that my small job may have to be pushed backed, Our plumber mate does a lot of second homes and holiday lets maintenance and not been in the pub often, the girlfriend is moaning about the work he's got on.
Rain has stopped play in the garden, probably not a bad thing as I have housework to catch up on and currently just sat for half a hour watching a stubborn wood pigeon trying to balance on a tiniest window sill to eat the small birds feed from the window feeder, he's fell off twice but determined.
Currently trying to work out if its worth coming off of mains gas in favour of a solar and air source heat pump set up, house is well insulated and we used very little gas over the mild winter and with being at work all day. currently using around £250PA on gas and £600ish in electric
But our water usage is high (well the cost is) at £840PA for average of £160 cubic meters a year so unsure if not fitting a A rated boiler would be a better option as a lot of our water waste is waiting for the hot water to come.
Any thoughts ?0 -
tori .... in my last house I had a gas boiler that only heated the water when I ran the tap and it came through hot almost instant ... didn't have an emmersion heater there .... mind you I didn't have mains leccy either ! [generator] ....
weather has been up and down for the last week ... belting hot then cool , no wind then a chilling wind ... the only good thing is it is getting the hay fields off to a good start ...
field next to me, the farmer has already had a first cut for haylage !! it was lush too ! seems the trick here is to have cows over winter and they seem to do a dam good eu nat fertilising !
still got big dog ... really surprised no interest shown ?? he really is a sweet heart but is much cleverer than he makes out ! he puts on his "durrrr,, don't know what you mean " face and then almost laughs at me and bounds off ...
my garden is actually looking like one now after I had determination to keep at it !
I keep dreaming of getting a holiday this year but is looking unlikely financially at the moment !0 -
Tori, I'd say look at payback times. The set up you have now sounds cheap, except the water. We're not metered here, so I [STRIKE]think[/STRIKE] know we have it easy, considering use outdoors. Indoors we try to be frugal, but there are long pipe runs in a bungalow, even with the big tank in the middle.
Plumber is good and careful , but only comes here after his other job, which is currently on the coast, Sidmouth way. He will be here all day tomorrow though, which is good, except we have a family event on Saturday here and things will be manic. Oh well....:undecided
Received all the remaining bathroom stuff only yesterday, so things have been tight!
In the weather dept, we've had just enough rain, but missed-out on the earlier stuff that others had, north and south of us. Looks unsettled, so the hay will get further boosts, hopefully. No more attempting to water stuff in the road hedge anyway.
Ironically, plants at the gate have sold very well. No garden centre now for miles! Won't be doing much in future, but we shall try to clear what we have, then just sell off any surplus in future years, as and when, like others do.
Edit: Before I started on the road hedge, laying it etc, I planted some spare species Cistus on the far side of the bottom hedge when I believed it was our responsibility to clear and maintain it. Then I forgot.Yesterday, chasing an errant lamb from the neighbour's side, I went over there, and lo, the whole bank was covered in these white blooms!
They only flower for a fortnight or so in June, but they do a great job of ground cover on hot banks, so the road hedge will get them next. Meanwhile, only the sheep next door get to see that display.:rotfl:0 -
Big event yesterday went off fine, with about 40 people here, ostensibly to celebrate my 70th, but that happened back in January, when a meal out was all we could manage. With the changeable weather, it looked like a disaster in the making, but somehow we got the tents and canopies up and the sun even appeared. :j
It's nice to say "Thanks" to friends every few years and get all the family around too. With 3 caravans parked up, the bottom of the garden looked like we'd started a site, and with half a dozen children under 5, it was [STRIKE]quite[/STRIKE] very noisy. Sam and his dad camped in the garden, as did DD2 and soon-to-be husband. I think they had a rough couple of nights, but they like that sort of challenge.:undecided
Now, like the Queen, I shall insist on having a real birthday and an official one on 8th June.0 -
:beer:Happy Birthday Dave:beer::bdaycake:0
