Well, we finally married-off DD2 on Tuesday, ferrets and all!
She and DD1 were down here pre-wedding, organising the flowers and getting the hairdressing sorted etc, though I'm sure flowers and hairdressers are available in Bristol. :undecided Anyway, it meant that on the wedding morning things became a little fraught. With the ceremony booked for 2pm, at around 11am I began to be a bit twitchy ....We actually left for Bristol after 11.30, which was cutting it very fine.

DW had somehow dug out the ribbons we'd had on our wedding car in 1981, which originally belonged to her Grandad's wedding vehicle in the 1950s. They were still in good nick, but they weren't designed for 80mph on the M5 and it was pretty distracting having those things flapping about!

I was sure we'd be stopped, but the road trip went fine and we reached the registry office just ahead of everyone else. :D

They might charge hundreds of £, but you don't get any parking included, no matter what wedding package you choose. DD went for the smallest room and the shortest ceremony, bringing along a singer/guitarist she knows, rather than piped muzak. That worked well. :)

Meanwhile, having offloaded the flowers, I was trying to park and the clock was ticking. Thanks to an Asda delivery van, I somehow got pushed into some medieval road that went nowhere, and then, having found the multi-storey at last, parked in what looked like a great space, only to find it was VIPs only. :wall:Finally, I managed to dump the car and run....only to realise I wasn't really sure where I was! :o I knew to run uphill, and more by luck than judgement, must've found the fastest route back, arriving just in time for the nice man to pin a flower on my lapel and awaaaay we went!

It might have been short, but we had 4 pages and 6 bridesmaids, the latter all in Indian dress, so it looked good.

It was very relaxed thereafter. The rain ruled out photos in the park, so we relocated to the bar of the food venue, which was cleverly chosen to cater for all tastes:

Thankfully, in the evening, being a Tuesday, there weren't 1000 people in there and we had our own corner for around 50. The food was excellent, so DW and I will probably sneak back there sometime. :A

    It's taken 2 days to recover! :coffee::whistle:

I need some advice and hoped you chaps can offer some. i may need to buy a new boiler for Skye house. I've never bought a boiler before. It's going to run an oil fired system, with a separate hot water tank, don't know if that's relevant or not.

The only thing I've heard is to get one slightly bigger than you need then it isn't running at full capacity and ticks over. Not sure if that's true or not. Help!

The people who fit boilers around here favour either Grant or Worcester Bosch. We have a Grant and it's given no trouble, though it comes with a long guarantee for £200 extra, provided it's serviced annually.

I think WB are much the same, with up to 7 years guarantee if you pay the extra, register it and keep an annual service record.

As for sizing, I think some variability through adjustment is built in, but I'm a little hazy about it...Sorry!

My WB is fine (it’s a utility one, so I could put it in the garage rather than the house). As Dave says, people either recommend WB or Grant - tends to depend on your preferred fitter.

Grant appear better at the moment, wb have bunged in cheap heat exchangers (and I don't think they cover those in the warranty). Wb have the advantage that it's easier to combine a combi with another heat source like solar... might not be a consideration up there in the arctic circle though. I know you chose a tank system... That's easiest to add a power source to. Worth doing, if you can, and solar does work very well up there, actually.

Having boilers in let properties, my most important consideration was not only the manufacturer's guarantee, but the comfort of the local engineer to fit and maintain it. If he dislikes working on Brand X, I wouldn't fit it. If he loves it, and sees similar ones regularly, I'd go with his recommendation.

As to sizing, too small is bad, it has to work overly hard. Larger ones can normally take a variety of burners to suit output needed, so you have flexibility there.

well ive got past the sad time re bimble ... seems very strange without him BUT I always tell myself if ive done right by them in my care then its the good times to remember and dignity at the end :)
anyway we didn't get the horrendous storms they forecast for here ! we had a bit of rain but nothing bad.
hay is growing like mad so that's good ...

talking of hay ... a barn full went up in flames last night up the road [2 miles] aprox 450 bales [I, think jumbo bales]
my son was driving up the road and spotted the "glow" way back near the tree line and called it in ... nobody had spotted it !! BUT it was 9pm and the sun sets behind there and probs thought an orange sunset !!
being a fireman he knew straight away ... had 4 engines and an all nighter !!
he carried on to the pub :rotfl:

cant help re boilers , sorry

still no takers for FISH / KUPATEE [big dog] I THINK the country is flooded with dogs at the moment . its the 6month marker after xmas and people give up on the "cute puppy" that they "forgot" to train !! and now are reaping a rampant teenager .... so they get rid :( ah well looks like I might end up with a tea nicking , shoe/box/rope/toy/plant nibbling monster ;)

Yes, I used to have quite a stressful job, especially when taking dozens of young people on residentials, where one's ability to predict and head-off c0ck-ups and complications never approaches the sheer randomness of reality...... but I don't handle it well nowadays. :o

Glad you are over the worst part of missing your canine chum. These things are never quite got over, because we don't forget such characters, animal or human. At the party here the other week, someone said something that triggered a memory and, without warning, I burst into tears! It was all very inappropriate, as we were relaxed, chatting cheerfully etc and I'd not even consumed alcohol at that point....:(

Honeymooners went out of mobile range for some days :D, but Whatsapped last night with pictures of Lands End and kayaking off The Lizard, so not too hard to guess where they've been. It's back to work tomorrow....and start preparing for the next one!:rotfl:

At last, this week I've got all the leeks, parsnips, squash, chard, lettuce and courgettes in....:D

Oh, and the people came to check the electric.....P1030266.jpg

That reminds me Dave, I need to reply to SSE about tree work. I don't want them to do it - partly because they just hack all round (they did it 5 years ago), partly because I had them done 18 months ago so they don't need a 3 year cut (not that SSE will come back in 3 years...) and partly because it's completely the wrong time of year to cut them. I'm hoping they'll go away, but suspect they won't...
