Glad to hear you are on the mend, if not yet mended, alfie.
It certainly feels springish out there! I stopped on the way back from a quick shop to have a look at the river.....3 weeks exactly till the fishing season starts.
Sadly, not my river, but I can still appreciate the valley road alongside, which I never tire of.0 -
Just been to the dental hygienist, on way back into house noticed a lovely little flower in one of our plant pots. Anyone know what it is? Definitely not one we've planted (it's in the pot that has Acidanthera in).

Looks like an anemone blanda to me.
I'm spending today battling with my heating. After putting the utility room radiator back on the downstairs circuit only two radiators came on initially. I've now got 4 working, but the new one only gets lukewarm, and the dining room one, which needs to operate a full output most of the time is still sulking. It gets vaguely warm if everything else is off, but if all the radiators are on (and at the moment all the lockshield valves are fully open, and if the radiators are on, they're on full) then it stays cold. Which means running the whole system on full isn't actually doing anything useful.
Very fed up, and have to fix it over the weekend as I'm away for work next week. And also have 17 trees to plant...0 -

The link below is a guide, if all the lockshield vavles are fully open, the hot water will go by the easiest path back to boiler.
There's a bit on doing it without a thermometer, if you want to get it done quickly.
How to Balance Radiators"We could say the government spends like drunken sailors, but that would be unfair to drunken sailors, because the sailors are spending their own money."
~ President Ronald Reagan0 -
Thanks Badrick.
I've got 6 of the radiators behaving and have balanced the system as I know the one that's not behaving is at the end of the run. I've done it several times before, and I know where they all sit on the circuit. With the system balanced the last radiator is getting warm, but not hot, which is annoying as that one needs to be on full most of the time!
There's still some air moving around the system (there are a lot of bends) so I'm hoping that's the problem and that it will eventually shift.
I also have the fun of having the odd radiator where the TRV is on the outlet and the lock shield valve on the inlet for no apparently reason (I'm sure there is one, but it does complicate things!).
Once they're behaving I'll stick some more inhibitor in the system, but I'm not doing it yet unless we have to run water through the whole thing by opening a drain and the filling loop at the same time... It isn't on my list of things to do at this time of year!0 -
green bee ... I had similar .. turn all down then I was advised to wack up the heat on LAST radiator [ NOT quite max] and then work backwards turning them up to half and then going back and turn them up in turn to = furthest rad ....if that makes sense ! the radiators massively gurgling are the ones that may need bleeding ... it worked here [2 houses in one system]0

Thanks Alfie - have been doing all that. It's just a question of pushing out those last bits of air (and dirt!). I got a massive amount of air out of one radiator that had been fine for ages, and a lot of dirt in the first bit of water that came out, and things have improved.
I just resent spending so much time on it... and also having had to have the heating on all day while the builder left the back door open constantly.
Hopefully it will all be working by the time I leave for next week's work trip on monday morning. And hopefully the utility room will be properly finished rather than 'nearly' finished when I get back so it can be cleaned and have everything put away in it.
No one seems to come and do stuff while I'm away. Which is when I want them to do it. When I get back from work trips I don't want people in my house. I want it clean, tidy and silent!0 -
Glad you're easing off a bit Alfie & have sold the settee.
Hope the radiator problem gets solved Greenbee.
It's so warm here - very odd day. Felt very humid & sky steel grey and very windy but no rain.
Went to a talk about climate change & it was a bit depressing.0
