  • Morning all.

Hubby has gone to pick our bacon and gammon up. Think what ever we don't keep is already sold!!! Even though I say so myself it is sooooooo nice.!!!

I really am sorry I have been quiet on here. But I have been busy 'honest' I have been working on a potential new venture .Which will be slow. But over time might be a small income from the ranch. ( Think Alfie knows what it is )

now that I am trying to work from home. I have more time to try and get the growing of plants to sell off the ground ..

Re mil no sign of any social care now that the emergency care people said that my mil said she didn't want them anymore!!! But on a huge plus side they have totally cha fed her down stairs bathroom into a walk in shower/wet room, and done a new path/steps from the pavement to the house

So now we got to try and convince her to take a shower !! Don't think she has bathed in over 2 years and only been doing quick flannel washes. .But hayho one step and a time .Don't think she likes the idea they removed her bath even though she couldn't use it anymore ..

Right off to have a cuppa ( that hasn't changed lol )

Cute lambs :) Not sure I'd describe Dave as cute, but love the red outfit!

I'm ignoring the inside of the house (should have called the builder this week) and have been focusing on the garden. I know I need to do some design work - having removed two internal hedges, various overgrown shrubs and half a dozen enormous trees over the last few years it's all a bit exposed, but it would be nice to have some of looking attractive this year!

I have a 60ft back fence (3ft post and rail, dog-proofed with wire with 4" squares to 2'6") which had neglected roses and some overgrown ugly shrubs of various kinds along it. I've pruned the roses (and the honeysuckle and clematis), mulched them with manure, dug out all the rubbish, cut back the shrubs to the ground where I can't dig them out without destroying the fence and neighbouring plants, moved roses from elsewhere in the garden, added hellebores, cyclamen, narcissi (hopefully have dug out all the plastic-looking daffs), snowdrops, tulips, verbena bonariensis, a sad honeysuckle from elsewhere and nerines. I now need to work out what else it needs. Possibly a couple of clematis. And something to fill in between the hellebores between the tulips and nerines flowering...

I've also dug over a flowerbed that used to be a hedge. It should have had weed suppressant matting on it, but we were overly enthusiastic and planted it up straight away. It was full of weeds - but the soil is good and the stuff that's in there is thriving, so I need to finish digging it over and plant it up for when I destroy the two remaining beds in a few weeks time - one (old herb garden maybe? It has garlic chives in it) will become a nursery bed, the other will be killed off with matting while I think about what the garden structure needs to be long term.

I'm also starting to plant up the stream having got rid of most of the iris pseudacorus - it's too invasive for the space I have. So I now need to find an affordable source of other suitable irises (I think robusta, laevigata, versicolor and sibirica should work). If anyone wants any yellow flags I have one more large patch to clear out... you can come and help yourselves!

There is a LOT of silt in what should be a clear chalk stream (probably due to removing so much vegetation - which our 'conservation' group seem to think is a priority) so any suggestions as to how to clear this without upsetting the trout/crayfish etc too much would be appreciated. I suspect that planting up the banks will be half the battle.

So today is about spraying the drive (almost indistinguishable from the lawn...) and building compost heaps, plus dividing some of the few acceptable plants in the garden to swap with friends.

Well, that's us done for another year!

Last night we just ran for the pub at 22.15, although as it was a private party, there was no closing time....;)

So, things were just left in a state of chaos. :o

But by 10.00 today you'd never know we'd been there. Stage, curtains scenery, costumes and props all gone and the hall swept. :A

The general consensus in the village seems to be that it was one of our finest efforts, so it's a little ironic that on Friday there were a few empty seats.

Last night was a full house, though, and a better audience too, so it was nice to end on a high. :D

Greenbee - sound like you been very busy indeed. I think you will need to plant the bankings to stop erosion

Lucielle - Good on the kids doing the lambing - they'll be busy too.

Dave great news on the success of the panto - you'll be all relieved in a way it's over as it sounds like a big commitment & hard work.

Quite mild here - woman coming for a ram so must get myself together & organised with paperwork and laddie in a pen.

I don't think many of us will have the relevant experience, greenbee. Here, we have typical spate rivers, which are quite different from chalk streams.

A major headache here is Himalayan balsam, which grows alongside all the larger rivers. On our wee stream I just use tough plants like primrose and its relatives, geraniums and other spreaders, but then it dries-up completely in the summer and is shaded, so many water loving plants don't work.

I had a guy here from the Wildlife Trust on Friday, but it was a waste of time, for both of us. Goodness knows why he expected to count wild flower species in the field in February! After half an hour chatting, I realised our aims were somewhat different and I was also beginning to wonder if it was all just a box filling exercise for him.

Besides the weekly rehearsals since Christmas, we started the final preparation 9 days ago and most of us have spent every evening since then in the village hall.

It's lucky we get on! :rotfl: There's so many different skills involved: sound & light, costume design & make, photography, video, scenery, props musical direction, choreography etc etc.

People just get on and do their bits. Then we weave it together. It all works because nobody gets above themselves.

This year was notable because no one had a cold or a bug of any kind, so the customary sharing of germs hasn't happened. We all looked remarkably healthy this morning! :D

We've a meeting in the morning with the conservatory MD and his sidekick.

I'm going to make it formal sit-down job with a chairperson and I'll record it with a dictaphone thingy. If they won't agree to that, my MiL will take shorthand notes and they can have a copy of those instead! :p

From previous experience, I'm not sure we'll get far, but if not, then at least we can then move to arbitration via the trade body. We don't have to accept the outcome of that, but we probably would if it seemed they'd acted in a genuinely impartial manner. :A

Whatever happens, our builder now has a definite date in July for his move to Oz. He's been hanging on because his dog was too old and infirm to go, but now the inevitable has happened and there's nothing to hold him up, barring final preparations.

So.....we have to get all those jobs he still hasn't done listed and then ticked-off. ;)

Not much going on here. We haven't had the sunshine you folk over in the east have been having, but it's still mild with the wet.
