Ah... Acetovanillone is a powerful anti inflammatory, the tannin from oak barrels is too, so that's OK too ... Just don't add water, that's pretty toxic!0

I would NEVER drink the water here - you can smell the toxins as it comes out of the tap. Not fit for use in tea or coffee, let alone water!
I want to look into whole house filtration systems (not softeners) but I really should be focussing on more sensible things. Like floors. And a kitchen.0 -
Just occasionally Mother Nature cooperates....
About a month ago, I was bemoaning the loss of one favourite plant, Erodium pelargoniflorum, the last one of which disappeared under a vigorous hebe in 2014, while I wasn't paying attention.
Two days ago, whilst clearing some debris, lo and behold, there was a seedling of this plant poking out of the gravel. It's not where we've ever planted, but it's nice not needing to send for seed from the person we originally sold it to, maybe 15 years ago! :cool:0 -
Glad to hear that LIR is well. send hr my regards Alfie. She has such good taste - I miss her contributions.
I know what you mean about easy times in mucky cottages/gatehouses.
Here just seems like graft - too much land & sheep & unfinished stuff & mess. It is exhausting just plodding through clutter that may come in some day.
It's pouring down again - really heavy stuff.0 -
Thanks for letting us know LIR is well Alfie, do tell her we think about her and hope she returns one day with some of her fabulous tales. I agree with Choille, she has great taste and it was always lovely to see what she had done.
Nothing much happening here. We have someone coming to look at our patio next week to give us a quote. Feels very exciting but the prospect of having it done feels somewhat daunting, for the mess and the cost.0 -
hi all,
I miss LIR too....:o
Alfie... if you miss having a pig.. we rescued one a few months back.. well when I say rescued it was free along with another one on fb. and they were both skin and bone. and with major skin problems.
they hardly had any human contact etc. the white one, we got her back into condition, but she was so nervous.. one day we could go near her, the next we couldn't. she had to go, as you know the layout of our place with the footpath. I cant really have an 'iffy' pig around. we kept the little black one.. we thought she was pregnant. but it turned out. she must have had stomach problems due to what ever the previous owner had fed them. best way to describe it, it was like bloat in sheep and certain dog breeds. she doesn't have it anymore. now. and she has doubled in weight..i don't want to take her to market .. I am trying to find her a pet home... so if you are looking for a pet pig...:D
will try and get some pics on her to show you.. she is like a little pudding now. lol.
been working the last few days via an agency.. started Wednesday, working right through the weekend and all of next week, factory work.. its only temp, so pooped when I come home.. ( 6am start)Work to live= not live to work0 -

Lovely wild looking pig CTC.
Got some tiles today for the hall, but I don't know when they'll be laid as things seem to grind slow at the mo.
I don't know how you manage to do all you do CTC - getting up for a 6am start. It would kill me. I've become very idle & unemployable.0
