    Sorry, not keeping up.

Sorry about hairy cat Dafty - sounds like he had a good innings & was well looked after.

Hope the rest of you lot are fairing well & getting some good weather - today is good, but it's been like April recently with heavy down pours. Been out and hacked some trees out of the banking - gosh they have grown & were crowding out the more rare ones like Acers.

It's sort of muggy so in for a cuppa.

Weather has been OK, but it's been another one of those 'hard jobs' here! :(

We had to dig an additional channel for a drain, besides the main one Pete did with the digger in about 20 mins. This one had to go by a more roundabout route, so that we could get the right fall on it. Apparently if you make it too steep, the water goes "whoosh!" and leaves all the solids behind......

    OK.....I know, yeah,TMI! :rotfl:

Anyway, hand digging through a bedrock of shale just isn't much of a fun activity, but after about 5 hours we'd done it, achieving an impressive 1:60 fall. :A

Then we exposed the existing drain at t'other end, only to find it's falling at an horrendous rate, way beyond textbook. Nothing we can do about that!

    All the best-laid drains....:(

I agree, choille, sometimes it has the feeling of April out there, with the nights being way too cold for July.

I received a round robin email from a couple of Garden Club members this morning, telling everyone they've gone to rent a house 'Darn sarth' near the coast. This is to see if they like it there, because the climate here restricts what they can grow. It's amazing what a difference they expect in 30 miles or so, but I know places like Dawlish or Torquay are significantly warmer than here.

You get other stuff there, though! ;)

    Sounds like real graft Dave.

Well we can be warmer than just a few hundred yards up across the road.
I think the trees have created a bit of a micro climate, plus we are in a slight sheltered dip - so that is good, but not when the midgies are out.

    yes, I have / do :D

all is well just a lot on her plate at mo...

poorly dog and OH job changes..

she is "jailing" bimble for me when im on my hols ... :o

iv come to the conclusion that this " all mod cons house / garden" etc can be a bit boring ;)... I do miss my exploits at last old gate lodge falling down around my ears house... there was never a dull moment ! often a powerless / pig escaping / bee invading / tree falling / flooding life but I kinda miss it....

hence im being a bit prissy in my boring reports... I miss the mud !!:rotfl:

harnessed up tilly yesterday to go out for a drive with friend and her granddaughter [who fired off questions faster than a tommy gun ! ] at 7 years old she sure can ask some awkward questions ! ie ... what was that, that jim jam was waving around as we passed his field , driving a mare in season  I looked at my friend , who looked at me and diverted the question at 100 mph :rotfl:
needless to say tilly was acting up and not safe for us to continue passing the whole length of a field with a stallion capable of clearing a 4ft fence !! now that would have been interesting for a 7yr old !!

very nice day here again tho the sun is behind thin cloud..

I must admit that I miss the simple freedom the house we purchased gave us.

If something was carp = previous owner's fault. :A
If something didn't work = ditto, getting around to replace.
If it looked hideous= awful taste, those people!
If there were weeds everywhere = inherited from rubbish previous maintenance....:p
    etc, etc.

I don't really like 'finished,' but there's little chance of that yet! :rotfl:

If we ever get there, I'm certain it'll be time to move on, if only to get right all the things we got wrong this time, which annoy the hell out of me!

Had my eye checked-over this morning. Nothing untoward, except the usual stuff with age, which is what I expected. It will probably get better naturally. Just as well: t'other one doesn't do much!

Fay, I think LIR got tired of MSE, and some of the people on another thread in particular....That's my impression from doing a bit of detective work, but I could be totally wrong. Glad to know all is well, anyway and I hope she returns here one day. :)

    I agree completely! :D

I've had some kind of lurgy for the last couple of days, so have dealt with my boredom (combined with a short attention span due to feeling rubbish) by reading through the whole of this thread. It has been fascinating. And very reassuring that I'm not the only one dealing with the problems I'm facing. It's good to know others have issues with decision fatigue for a start. And constantly changing plans due to unexpected discoveries...

I'm lucky in that my builder organises the plumber, electrician, roofer etc and has found someone to service and sort out the oil boiler. Plus he has a good eye for design and colour, and is prepared to talk through options as to how things can be done - he gets what I'm trying to achieve and works out how to achieve it, then talks me through the pros and cons of the different solutions.

TBH every problem they've found with the house has left me relieved - because they've found the problem and fixed it. Much better than suffering the consequences after all the decorating is done.

As I've had a couple of days in bed I'm now behind on the mowing and stream-clearing (and work). Unfortunately I can't do much about it, as while I've been lounging around in bed feeling horrible I seem to have upset my left arm, which is now pretty much unusable. Doesn't like moving. Or typing. The physio has (over the phone, as I can't drive) diagnosed tendinitis and told me to take anti-inflammatories and not do anything that aggravates it. As the latter includes breathing, I'm in for a quiet weekend - so I'm hoping you'll all have updates to keep me entertained :D

Gin is an antiflammatory isn't it?

I am happy to report that gin IS anti inflammatory... Well, the quinine in tonic is strongly so, juniper slightly less, but still effective.

Let the Duck prescribe two g & it's per evening, good tonic (check content as cheapies fake the quinine), and a slice of lemon (ascorbic acid is an anti inflammatory, and the vitamin C is antioxidant which, in turn, will reduce inflammation).

I have a hacking cough.... We are without spirits (no, I haven't drunk the lot, just run out, which is different!) but we do have cool white wine. Mmmmm soothing bottle(s) of wine!

A lille... liklle... Little nowlidge ish a dangerush thing... Shumshing like tah:beer:

    :D

Checked the tonic. Waitrose Essential lists 'Quinine Hydrochloride' and Fever Tree 'Natural Quinine'.

I have plenty of gins to choose from

    and both lemon and lime.

So I'm sorted.... Hope the wine is helping :D
