More gains & losses on the 'livestock' front...

Losses, last fancy guppy expired. I'm giving up on them, too fragile from in-breeding I suspect.
Gains, a couple more otocinclus fish to help eat algae.

Also, added an area of aquarium sand over the gravel substrate in the main tank. This was so the dwarf catfish (the size of a broad bean) could sift through the sand for nibbles. Surprisingly, several of the other fish species have also taken to "nosing" about in the sand.

All cannas now potted up, last of 100 'green' snowdrops planted, hydrangea pruned, 1st grass cut of the year, but still haven't planted any seeds!

Well, there's not many disabled toilets around here IHS.

A dull day here, but dry after the downpours yesterday.

I signed - the gold cladding thing here has reached nearly 5,000 so will be raised in parliament.

That is on change.org which is also a good venue for e petitions.

Well, some success on the injured... Rook - recovered, and b0gged off. Gull, no longer angry, does like cat food, says he's no intention of leaving us, and he does like tuna too, please. He sits on the oil tank, and eyes me up as I pass. Hedgehog still three-quarters dead, and won't make up his mind, so he's returned to hibernating on his food plate. Helpful! At least he's de-ticked and de-flea'd. NO, we did not adopt the ticks and fleas. A mallard has arrived in the yard, and is so thick, adoption seems his only hope.

Leg much better, but still hurts like stink. Cold definitely, certainly, probably flu, ( ♂ variety probably) is far more debilitating really. Combining the two isn't much fun, partly as every cough makes it feel like stitches and {I won't be too graphic :D } have failed.

Brilliant thunder storms last night; brief but violent. No trees came down, which makes a change. Progress, I guess! :D

I've been a bit quiet for the last few days, mainly because there's been nothing of significance to report, although my ongoing battle over refuse and recycling here has kept me busy.

Someone dumped 20 bags of unsorted, potentially recyclable rubbish outside our entrance here on Monday, which p!ssed me off, because I'd already removed 3 bags of the same left by someone else at the weekend; probably the couple who use one of the nearby conversions as a holiday cottage.

Anyway, I stuck up a polite note saying "Who needs to deposit 20 bags of unsorted carp on my doorstep?"

It went down well. The note was soon gone. :rotfl:Someone is trying to flog their barn conversion....;)

Fortunately, the wind was kind, animals left the bags alone and they were picked-up today without incident, along with another 30 or 40 which came at the right time, so no harm done. However it's totally archaic, when there can be 40-60 bags sitting there just asking thecrows, badgers, foxes & rats to come and have a look. :(

I've challenged the leader of the council over it directly, face to face, but he's evasive, like all politicians. They will give wheelie bins to town dwellers, but we can go whistle.

Dafty - You sound like you are turning into an animal sanctuary.

Hope the cold/flu goes soon. It's a pain being ill.

Dave - the way people don't 'own' their own rubbish is a pain really.
Up the road- where they can't get down a track that serves three properties the council put a big wheeled bin that has now had to be padlocked as folks were dumping their stuff in it - businesses etc.

With all the cut backs here, they are not only shutting toilets but also removing bins from lay-bys & some towns, so people are fly tipping. It's bad during the holidays - ei Easter. It's short sighted.
Felt a bit jiggered today after the fasting for hospital stuff, so didn't do the sheep, but hopefully tomorrow as I will get a hand.
