As it happens, I've been having a look at the French drains/soakaways I did a few years back. There's been standing water at one side of the lawn after heave rain, so obviously something wasn't right - looks like just silt so have cleared above the perforated pipe etc.
Sheriff Court has now named me be as executor for dad's estate, so can move things along and have the banks etc. speak me.0 -

You are not allowed to have run off from a muddy field go into streams and rivers now, that came into force in April 2014 I think. I know as the neighbour reported us for so called ' pumping' pig poo into the stream...when naturel resource Wales came out, and seen the lay of our land etc .. There wasn't any problem. As he could see it was a malicious reporting. BUT he did tell us, that if the stream floods and goes onto our land we have physically got to try and stop it running back into the stream!!! Lol.. So we have put loads of rubble from the house in that part of the land, and some boards on the edge of the pen.. And that was good enough..
Nothing lives in the stream anyway, as I think alot of it is coming from the mountain opp which goes through 2 old mine workings lol..
How can people stop flooding joining waterways? Ditches and land drains....it all gets into waterways some how....this is why we're not meant to spread in rain, and spray with things that become inert in water.0 -
Turned out nice enough, so have been moving perennials. Maybe a bit early with the ground still cold but don't know when we'll get another dry day!
Massive amount of moss on the ground, so that's being cleared too.0 -
I think vinegar diluted is good for moss killing. I found the hens were very good at raking it out.
Glad that you got the executor job - it will makes things possible. It was quicker getting that sorted than I would have thought - as these things can drag & it's not great time to have them drag.
Nice here btw snow showers. Done outside stuff & now just gearing up for..........yet another coat of varnish on doors.........is it possible for my life to get more exciting than this????0 -
I went for another look at the stream, and it's running clear today, but it's also possible to see much grey silt, which is different from our usual reddish-brown mud.
The muck didn't come in via the roadside gully or the under-road culvert. Those are both fine. It's easy enough to see, it entered via the gully behind Mr Dog's place. That's grey.
This still doesn't make him guilty of anything......yet! :rotfl:
While I was out, I remembered driving past Mr D's place earlier this week and seeing he had a very large pile of muck left over from the building work he's had done, namely a ditch, a low roadside barrier and a new wall. All that happened after his place was inundated by run-off from the fields.
I can't see in, but today a car is parked where that pile was, so it's probably not there now!
Maybe all the drain clearance work by BT is a red herring....
Farmer Fred is responsible for that gully, but guess whose son is paid to clear it for him when it silts-up?
Luckily, the main brook, which is my responsibility, is too fast-flowing to need maintenance.
I agree lir, there is no way that run-off can be controlled. When the next flood happens, despite all this work Mr D has done, the main route from the big field will still be through the hedge, over the road and through his yard.0 -
hi all.....
quick pop in !
guy that's training ruby was fetching a horse for some one in wales today and his lorry broke down 4 miles from CTC area !! they had to shut down the motorway to get horse out and into another lorry... !! took extra 4 hrs on their journey !0 -
Goodness Alfie. But the link doesn't work.
OH decided to start laying floor tiles in the hall, but after laying 3 he has put the kitchen into complete chaos - all stuff in utility now in kitchen including sink & worktop a door & now I can't open the pantry door.
We've had words.....I just wish that something got finished before another job gets started. It's like a complete guddle everywhere.
I'm finding it exhausting just trying to walk across the kitchen.
Moan over - I think I'm just over wrought!!!0 -
Alfie, I heard on the radio there were tail backs on the motorway!!
Just come back from the ranch.. Caught a dog walkers dog pooing and then walking away!! He said he was going to pick it up on the way back!! If he bloody did!!! I made him clean it up, and followed him as he started walking on our land I am sure he was going to throw it..
Where is dog was pooung is an area where we are having big problems with dog mess, and its the samedog. So fingers crossed it will stop now..
I was very loud and vocal lol.. So I am sure the houses backing onto the lane heard.
Also having a huge problem with people picking their dog mess up, and then throwing the bags either on our land or in front of the back gates of the houses backing on the lane..
Choille I know the feeling.. Things half done, tools everywhere.. Really gets you down.Work to live= not live to work0 -
CTC... can you get the council to put dog poop bins at either end of your track ? if they are considering making it a bike path, the last thing needed is cyclists skidding on poop ! as long as they arrange emptying them mind ! ive always thought a roll of poop bags in a holder would help for the lazy ba**ards that don't bring them with them....
also why not put up a sign saying track is on ctv and offenders reported ?0 -
today is milder ,dry but cloudy...
