IHS - beautiful photo. Do you want razor shells - make nice plant labels, or bog wood for a tank - loads of peat emitting from the wood?

Alfie - how's about beautiful lavendar orpingtons ==stupendous.

I sold the Rayburn to a mad woman from Wales who says she will come with a horse box. i do hope she does, even though she has got a real bargain.

The mountains are white & glittery - like picture postcard. I had to move the old girls up onto the half hill apportionment as their field is frozen mud. Plenty of cars in laybys so folks up the hill. It's dangerous, but I think that is the attraction - pity the local Mountain rescue Team who will turn out whatever the weather.

Got a couple of doors off Gumtree for less than a third of price & they are really like new - so that is a good enough reason to have bought the trailer.

    That's a really attractive tank IHS! :T

Good on you for the doors, choille! :D

Our period of cold & dry has ended temporarily, but like Arnold Swarznegger, it'll be back, so after today there are no signs of double digits in the 10 day forecast. Could be a slow spring. :(

Yesterday, I managed to finish the limited bit of hedge-laying I'd set myself to do this winter, so that was good. Now neighbour farmer has a good fence, I have to go carefully because if I drop a 20' length of hazel on top of it he won't be pleased! Very often, if one is leaning too far his way, I have to do two saw cuts and collapse it onto itself....hard to explain... but so far it's worked...only in calm weather, though. :)

Haven't started on the road side trees yet. :o Not enough energy. I thought I was just getting old, but DW is the same, thanks to this wretched Panto bug. Like dear old Arnold again, it just keeps coming back. DD1 in the Midlands also had the same problem, so it's probably country-wide. :(

Must stop grumbling! Planted some more seeds yesterday and fixed the new gate post in the chicken orchard, so now they're confined to one area again. Also stuck in a crab-apple, being the only tree I had that was fruit and able to take lots of pruning, as it's fairly close to our tank run-out.

Looks like painting the main en-suite today. Then we can put it to bed for a while, filling it with stuff that is currently cluttering-up other places, until the lofts are finished/insulated. I have a sneaky feeling DW may have alternative thoughts about that e.s. so no bad thing to leave it fallow for a while....;)

Well mad woman from Wales has gone quiet.

    Lovely underwater world there IHS.

The snow is nearly all away with the rain - it's been a white glittery winter wonderland here.

The burn was in spate with all the snow melt.

Off for feed & coal with the trailer & Planning dept for OH.

Perhaps like my mad bloke from Peterborough, who bought the 4.6m steel beam and then realised Devon is quite a long way from there? :(

Fortunately, replaced by someone called 'Badger' from Barnstaple. :D

After painting, I did a bit more in the polytunnel. It was quite exciting, finding some seeds I'd ordered last autumn and forgotten all about. One benefit of entering ones dotage is the little surprises like that which happen. :)

She did get in touch before bidding & it was explained where we lived, but she reckoned she would make a holiday out of the journey!

Thawed then snowed & is still snowing, so will see if OH can manage to get to his hospital appointment tomorrow.

Glad we still have the Rayburn plumbed in & running as we'd be frozen.

    Fingers crossed for Mum, alfie.

I have a friend's funeral next week. It won't be sombre, but it'll be hard, because she was such a live-wire with still much to live for.

According to the news yesterday, we old fogies are having a ball. So, that's all right then. smiley-gen129.gif

Personally, I find it a bit off for reports of some survey to lump us all together, just like it is for people to generalise about 'teenagers,' but I expect the devil is in the detail, which the media skip over. A lot of self-satisfied people on the radio yesterday. :p

Well, it's snowing hard, so no hospital appointment for OH again. Had to cancel.

Alfie - yes, you have had a week of it - hope Mum's health is fine & it's all okay when she get's the results.
I don't know if the mad welsh woman is your one or not - she has zero feedback! Thing is we need to get it out & new one bought, but can't until this is sorted. I have her number so I think I should phone her up.
Saw lambs when we were over East but that is very early for here poor things. All the young wild goat kids are coming here & have been for a month - they are lovely to see - never seen such big herds of them before.

Sorry to hear of your friend passing Dave - it's sad when people go before their time.

I know what you mean about all the self satisfied people. They want to travel on the buses a bit more round the 'rough' areas in a city.
There is a huge divide between haves & have nots - very noticeable in some areas.

I look at all the news footage of these poor folks under tarpaulin & wonder how it will all pan out for the displaced & dispossessed.

There's a big spread in a paper about a couples house that OH helped design - they are moving, it's on the market, but they make the area sound so wonderful - I don't recognise the place I live at all......

Glad your Mum's well Alfie & you are really a good daughter looking after her.

Rayburn buyer in touch & we've agreed to her coming in a week's time - which is good as we couldn't get the plumber to come & de-plumb before Sunday & we can't get the new one & it fitted until near the end of the month - so as least we'll be warm in the kitchen for another week.

Cold here again - just finished scraping paint of the hall window which is always satisfying.
