Dave do you want me to send you gorse for hedging?
CTC - good to make plans even though it's hard to foresee every possiblitity. Do you have in-laws that would do their bit?
White here - although it seems to be thawing a bit - snow sliding off the roof. Filled the fat balls & off to do the sheep.0 -

No hubbys elder sister died suddenly a few years ago, there is only a ' cousin' (a daughter of close friends to mil ) so she will be popping in, plus a few neighbours that are about the same age.
Hubby was there this morning, and she was saying it was strange to wake up on her own!
How is Mr Choille doing???Work to live= not live to work0 -
How would the prospect of something such as Sheltered Housing be taken on board?
OH seems to be doing fine - no pain, but the walking isn't yet normal.0 -

That hedge is pretty ancient, so I'm trying to stick with species that are natural to it, though the rose types aren't both local. We do get gorse here, lots of it, but usually in slightly higher locations than this.
I've just been trying out the long reach hedge trimmer I bought in Aldi last summer. It's done about 100' of our elm hedge and I've had enough now! Think it's a great buy at £70.0 -
Just spent ages on to Ombisman about BT & they seem almost as annoying as BT Bagalore - why do they annoy me so?
All white & bright here now after another belt of snow.0 -
Small panic tonight, arrived home and found no keys in pocket!
Walked back to office and relieved to see I'd left them on my desk...tomorrow I'll be taking the spare key and leaving in my desk pedestal so if I really so lose them I can at least get into the house.
Other than than, lots of planting - in the aquariums! Yep, got a load of prunings, I suppose you would say, from a seller on Amazon so hopefully they can root in the substrate. I'm assuming they are like most plants, so have trimmed just below a leaf node to encourage rooting.
Did think about hormone rooting powder then decided not in case the fish/snails don't like it - what is in that anyway? They are very sensitive to surprising things, like clove oil is used to euthanise fish.
Plodding on with executor work, beginning to become a bit tedious but there you are.0 -

I hesitate to say it after your frustrating day, but the weather here has been glorious, albeit not that warm; I'm told about 8c.
For years we had a very sub-standard broadband service here, but I didn't complain when maybe I should have. I couldn't see them digging up the road etc just to sort this little enclave out. Anyway, an improvement was possible, but we only realised after it was carried out at the exchange last spring.:o
Now they really are digging up the road and we're to be Superfast by next month. I'm not sure what that will do for us, if anything. We have enough trouble as it is playing catch-up on the Freesat PVR! :rotfl:
Cut down 3 unproductive, ill-looking plum/gage trees and planted a new Marjories Seedling in the hen orchard this afternoon. Also pruned all the remaining apple trees in there that needed a haircut.
But that was all after a panic mid-afternoon when the fancy electric gauge thing told us we were low on oil. Got out my ultra-reliable 'bit of wood' and discovered we have plenty of oil, but employ a plumber who can't calibrate the Watchman he fits. Fortunately, the instructions of how to do it are all on-line.0 -
IHS - sounds like a plan re the keys.
So annoying - I've left keys & had to backtrack miles. Must stash the spare somewhere hidden.
The thing with BT is that it's a very old small exchange & does need serious upgrading - loads of problems with phones & BB locally all the time. We think that we can't all be on at the same time here - so they give us a shot about.
Just has a indescipherable= almost - call from BT to say they'd tried all day to phone. Untrue. I asked why & the man with the thick Indian accent said to tell me I'll be phoned on Tuesday!

bright sunny day here but bluddy cold !!

half my long awaited eggs in the incubator are starting to "pip"...
the first are the POLISH then from tomorrow it should be the BRAHMA's ...
I have been pacing the floor checking them..[first time iv used an incubator !
got a big box with heat lamp set up ready...
I got the brahma eggs from Cumbria.. got chatting to the lady and turns out she used to holiday at an aunts close to here when she was a kid !! small world .
ruby is continuing to progress with the odd misdamenor
we have to get the beaulieu estate to sort out the gate beside the cattle grid leading to our track.. they said "it opens doesn't it "... I said " well apart from no catch, a loop of wire instead, rotten wood and propping up on a large brick... yes !" also the ground leading through it is brambled and 2ft drop in the middle... no way can a cart go through it let alone pulled by a hoss !
we have been trying to aquire use of a field beside me that borders our fields.. tried speaking to the farmer who rents it all.. he hasn't used it for years but apparently if he doesn't start using it he will lose the "pay out " he gets ...
SO our next plan is to find out how much he gets as a pay out then see if we can match it... does anyone know how it works ??? don't want to get diddled ...
thing is that field has no water ... we dohe reckons theres a stream in the woods that's part of his land BUT that is actually the overflow from friends lake.... which has been known to dry up a bit when water is low...;);)
right, egg bacon and chips beckons
oh, glad to hear MIL is better CTC.. could she do what my mum did and sell up to move into a warden controlled flat ? or is her health not up to that ? she can still have carers attend.. if she owns flat she can apply for an attendance allowance that will pay for carers and transport etc.. she can apply for that anyway..0 -
How exciting with the eggs Alfie - i do miss not having hens or chicks.
Chased three wild billies earlier - right outside the house the stinkers & they do - they will also eat everything & bark the trees if left to it.
Put some more varnish on doors & frames - this low vapour stuff is thin & you need loads of coats on = it's thankless.0
