I've still not planted all of my bulbs, but I'll pot them up & put them in the shed.
The mice are a begger for munching tulip bulbs.
Never given u the rain today - gone really cold again.0 -
Well, I can do no more. I've dug around the existing [STRIKE]manhole[/STRIKE] inspection chamber to a depth of 3/4 m and exhumed enough clay to throw a dinner service. Now it's 'just' a matter of removing the concrete chamber, plonking some new concrete in and connecting up the 4 pipes to the new plastic one......all before someone wants a wee, or worse!
Might get away with just strong winds and some heavy rain bursts. OTOH we might encounter an issue and end up wallowing in a pit of mud and water.
Plumber turned up yesterday to remind hmself about what he still has to do here, so that's hopeful.....maybe!0 -
Anyone bought a Cerrano ham from a discount supermarket? I'm sort of tempted at £29.99.
NB Buy Nothing Day, I've bought so much from the online retailers, I'll be exchanging Xmas cards with their delivery drivers0 -
Dave best of luck with the manhole. Take it it is for a septic tank?
We had gales & snow last night - caraaavan rocking & hail drumming. The tops are white but there's nowt on the ground.Feels really cold tho - it's the wind.
Posted a wrong scarf off to someone. Who bad is that? I contacted them as I sent them a much better one than they bought. They were as good as gold & say they'll return it even tho the wife liked it!0 -
Finished new inspection chamber at 14:00 (old one was letting winter ground water into the drains) By 15:00 work would have been impossible, as water was running into the hole and it was filling up fast. It's now as deep as the pipes.:(
How close was that!
Managed to keep main drain man AKA BiL reasonably dry by erecting our old pop-up shelter over the hole. I lashed it to the house and conservatory. It took off at one stage, but the ropes held OK. That's now drying off in the polytunnel.
Now it's sort the hens out and batten-down the hatches....
My weather info says warmer tomorrow, but more windy! Looks bad up norf....:eek:0 -
Its been blowing a gale, and really heavy rain here, by all accounts we are going to have a months rain in 2 days!!!
Hubby went down to the last farm/ poultry auction of year ( the main big one) mainly because the wynnstay farm feed place sells their layers pellets and corn at a silly low price, to grab poultry owners going to the auction.. £6.10 or a 25 kg bag of layers,, I use a bedding called pro bed, which our local animal feed store sells for £11.99. ( or £9.99 can't remember) but today we picked it up for £6.10!!!
So stocked up , it will not be enough until the next auction at the end of January, but don't think we will be far off...
Its the type of weather , just to do what you got to do, and then just stay indoorsWork to live= not live to work0 -
IHS - Many thanks for the push. I got my bulbs in. You reminded me that it was needing done.
Disgusting day - loads of hail storms & very gusty. Managed to wheelbarrow the lick buckets up to the sheep & get it in the field & also lift one over for the girls - gosh they are heavy.
Waddling about in mud.Planted the bulbs in posts before they rot - some have started to sprout!
Tidied up some branches that have come down, sawed the twiggy bits off & will get the limbs logged some time. Got well & truly wet through & it's dark now. Sitting in the caravan with the kettle on to of a towel on my lap to thaw out a little. Brrrrrrrrrrrr0 -

I did, last year, from Lidl. It really wasn't very nice, and we got fed up with it quite soonWon't do so again.
I noticed afterwards that it had poor reviews in the press, too (unsurprisingly).0 -
No ham, but we have ordered a slow-grown large chicken from a lady who attends the village Market, and we'll buy some Ruby Red beef direct from the producers in one of the nearby villages.
The weather really doesn't look promising for tomorrow, or for the first part of next week.0 -
The snow is actually starting to lie. The wind is fierce at times - real gusts.
Saturday telly is a bit rubbish eh? Long nights with not much energy to do owt constructive.0
