Like Mrs Slocombe, I prefer p u s s ies, mainly because they are easy and not a liability on this site, with the road nearby.

I did worry about having the kittens here, but they seemed to be very wary of traffic right from the start. I've not seen them cross the road, though they do nip across the private lane into Horse Woman's manege and fruit garden.

New oil tank arrived this morning. I've built the main base, but it's too soon to start building the piers on it yet, and besides, with the family builders about this weekend, I'd rather not demonstrate my shaky bricklaying skills! :o:p

They are bog-building in the barn tomorrow. A toilet & handbasin there will be nice, but it's just not a priority for us at present.;) It will take the place of the caravan loo, which is fine, so long as they realise there'll be no water in the really cold weather! :)

  • Holiday weekend here in Glasgow :) (we don't get the August holiday)

Weather looks a bit mixed, but will be cracking on. Maybe last cut of the grass this year?

    hi all...

at last ive sat down ! I went to put deposit on pup [for friend] this morning [wasted an hour playing with them all !] then went shopping, then went to see dad, then went to see mum [hang curtains and fix hangers on back of doors], then mowed lawn..........

have a good day tomorrow CTC...
  • Thank goodness I've just found this thread! I'm at the start of my dream to own a small holding. Or... a large holding.

I live in London but would like to own a piece of land somewhere on the outskirts or south of London (e.g. in Sussex or Kent). Ideally at least 1 acre minimum. I would like to use it to start a garden of my own to practice horticulture and just grow stuff. One day in the long distant future perhaps turn it into a garden nursery - but no need to worry about that yet.

Does anyone have any tips at all for how I can go about getting this dream started? And what type of land I can use? It would be great to have permission for sheds, greenhouses and poly tunnels.

I've just started looking into areas a little bit. Would ideally like it to be less than an hour from Clapham Junction.

    hi dead tomorrow..
good to have a dream :D
there are others on here that know more about "land use" than me...
agricultural [usually means no house unless already there but allowed buildings connected to agri produce]]
non agricultural [ can be problem re out buildings]
BUT there is ways round everything and im sure someone can advise...
depends what exactly you want to do on land ie live there, or work there..

over to you lot that knows :D

Welcome dead tomorrow.... I would personally work out the best area to have land first especially if you need to travel to it every day or so, also look at the area, and see if all the work you will be doing will be safe?? Is it worth going on the Hugh fernly page and seeing there is any lanshare near you??

We had an allotment years ago, which was 16 ish miles away, and we found it tough will all the travelling etc.. And at the time fuel was the most expensive it had ever been.. So bare that in mind..

Went to get my clothes out of the dryer to go to the malvern show, and I hadn't put put them in there, still in washing machine!!!!! So got to wait for them now.. ( I am a wash and wear type of girl, so only have one pair of jeans..etc)

Better have another cuppa while I am waiting lol
