For the record they don't give you the insulation if you have bats either.

Lucky we don't have them then! :D

For the record, our bat (singular) was under a ridge tile, having accessed that little hideaway via rubbishy leadwork. We've never had a bat inside the loft, as we're too well protected with under-tile felt etc.

I don't know if there are any more bats up there under the ridge. We aren't touching the rest of it till next year. :)

i thought a gap had to be left between the edges of roof/loft floor for circulation.

just spoke to my friend who has an insulating company ;) he said that the house owner has to get the bat people to check out the loft, then they suggest the best time of year to do it... apparently !:o and he said the eaves have to be insulation free for the air to circulate or else damp can set in from condensation... rots the wood ..... apparently !:o

By the time you've had a second bat survey cheaper ( if slightly dodgy) to insulate yourself if you know when bats are absent.

But, but, but....we don't have even a single bat in the loft! :p

I've seen lofts with bats in them, and you certainly know when they're resident. ("Holy Bat poo, Robin!")

You're right about the insulation, but modern eaves have felt, (or plastic trays now) on which the edges of the tiles/slates sit, leaving no holes for critters to get in (unless you have a ridged tile, perhaps.) The plastic soffits we are installing, have the ventilation built-in; again too small for critters.

I know, this is all bad news for swifts, sparrows and bats etc.:(

    Room now.

Are doggies allowed at this fair thing? The kiwi would like to come and see you.

I need to get a grey muzzle for dog dog sorted out too. She has such a LONG nose I'm worried I'm not going to get one to fit!

"Brrrrrr! " not so warm tonight, but we had a lovely day. Totally windless too. I finished putting the oil back in the tank, so now we can light up the Aga for its final winter....but maybe not just yet. I'll have to give the relevant postman a bell though, to make sure we're booked-in! ;)

Thinking about heating a bit more, we've had quotes for oil/thermal and pellets, but we haven't explored electric. Having had storage heaters in the past, I normally wouldn't give them a millisecond of thought, but these have made me wonder:

Might as well get a quote for those too. If they leave more ££ for something else on the roof, I could be interested.... ....maybe!

    Woodburner stays, whatever. :)
