    Lovely pics Alfie :D

LIR, so pleased that Mauve Squeaker is off the danger list.....

Dave, I think the stuff here is Wargrave Pink - planted by the PO, but run amok whilst the place was empty - which literally had taken over several beds/areas of the garden.

I've retained several clumps - a large area under the square bay window of our 'morning room', a slightly smaller patch dividing the terrace path from the herbaceous border and one small clump in said border. All the rest is coming/has come out......and one bed was full of it :p

Between that and the geums there was very little variety going on in some parts of the garden, perennial-wise.......survival of the fittest, I guess!

Don't get me wrong - I adore planting in huge clumps and there's a *reasonable* amount of space here to take it, but it just looked a bit boring imho ;)

Forgot to add: great to hear the kitchen has been finalised!

I think your planting always looks so natural and pretty dave. I must admit I prefer random than too organised ( bit like me ! ). But then lir has color themes that contrast but look so good. I think gardens reflect their owners...

Most of 'my' planting is DW's, but some of that part is mine. The rest is plants having their own ideas.....:o

I think we have no alternative here, but to go natural. It's a not a tidy, organised place, with a long history of cultivation. We are never more than a few months from insurgent Mother Nature repossessing what she thinks is rightfullly hers.....

    Morning all,

Couldn't sleep last night.. Too much whirling through my head lol...

We have said s.o.d. work today, shut up shop and going to the poultry/ pig auction. Not taking pigs, or buying any, but going to see pieces/ quality and then having a look at the poultry.. Taking the cockerel that someone gave us.. He keeps on attacking me ... I can deal with him,but if he gets out.. He would be a nightmare to walkers on the footpath.. Wouldn't care about adults, BUT we do have some kids walking passed, and the kids are better behaved than the adults, and I wouldn't want the old cockerel to do anything g to them...

Right finish my cuppa, and then we are off catch you all later

I certainly think they SHOULD do. :).

We went to a garden party some years ago in a garden of an acquaintance ( and part of the Ngs) and I hated it. The grass looked as it it had been combed as well as cut perfectly, and the base of each plant was perfectly surrounded with a gaping vacuum of soil. The plants were all healthy, ( it felt like any who were struggling would be shovel pruned) and everything was very 'nice' but to me It felt......hollow, soulless, and kind of......well, as un beautiful as a group of well maintained plants can be, BUT it suited its owners and very many perfectly.

I love to look in wild bits of verge and see the hidden bits of beauty and wild flowers ( although increasingly groan that rape is not a wildflower). But in my garden I like a wild tangle of chosen colour for a particular feel or mood. I like that I can go into three areas of my garden now for very different 'mood sensations'. I am very influenced by colour and scent, so planting in different feels like this works well for me. The dividing of the different areas by colour and mood rather than plant is much more successful than by plant. A rose garden, much as I love roses, would be bare so much of the year, and IMO, roses do better with other plants. I know others prefer formal rose planting,.....great, its why so many of us feel NEED for our own patch of soil :D. For me I think my planting ideal reflects me quite well......I love formal lines, and tangled planting. The roses through the pears really is the most me thing I think I have ever done, even if not the most me colour way. That I feel pride in this is also a bit of self love that is not bad for the soul because it is a reflection of me.

I also love tangled , ruinous, forgotten places and very naturalistic gardens. We are talking about the awkward shadey nook in the back garden being a 'ruin' come 'hot tub corner ( I know, I know it sounds awful and tween but it think we could do a decent job of pulling it off given time). It won't have a great view, but it will have great privacy :D

In the bottom half of the back garden I really, really want to try and better do tonal colour planting for depth of perception. I started trying that in the sunset/rose gold border but got distracted :o.

I love Christopher Lloydd planting. He used to go to the 'big hoose' here & was a terrible boring ole Queen according to the ex cook =- should edit that so please don't quote me. But there was a wonderful coffee table type book of his in the Ullapool library that I used to oggle now & again.

Glad Mauve Squeaker is on the way up LIR - so upsetting when they're down.

Alfie - We looked at shutters, but they are so expensive, even cheap ones! Love th etin bath - could do with a tin bath.

Dave I like geranium's they are also loved by bees - which is a must. I have a rather plain cranesbill pale pink one? & a purple one, but I would have more as they are great ground cover.

Grey & windy & wet & if things weren't green t'would have a November look about the hills & Loch.

Glad the kitchen is getting finalised Dave. If you are owt like Mr Choille you'll leave the final decision to Mrs Dave then they take the wrap if it doesn't live up too expectations.

Haven't long got back from auction, called into a ' posh' farm shop on the way back and bumped into one of our neighbours parents lol, seemed really strange going all that way and seeing neighbours...

Well we were gobsmacked our cockerel was the last lot of the day, didn't even think he would cover the cost of the pen fee let alone the commission and he went for £7 lol.. Top priced c.o.c.k on the day... Bought a load of chicks etc,to bring on, and sell on, couldn't leave them for 20p each lol.. OK some are males, but.. Hayho..

Had a fab day... Think will try and see if we can go to each one.. If we can shut up shop for the days, I might go alone ( lol.. Hubby not there to tell me not to bid)
