lots gave input on that space.
Paint the table and chairs white
Get a parasol for the table in case of showers
Solar power uplighters on the roses
Stain the baseboard ebony as a dramatic contrast
Cascading plants in the raised beds to cover the wood
More white flowers to shine out at dusk (anise, white hyssop, white flowered sage, sweet cicely)
Lift a few cobbles and plant in the space with thyme etc.
Move the pots onto the stone and plant-up
Rosa Mme Alfred Carrière at the far end of the back fence
I'll get my coat0 -
Thanks LIR and Alfie.....I wasn't planning on buying the large olive as we already have a fairly good sized one, although the mahoosive gnarly ones are fab
DS was fortunate to be given a large gnarly olive tree by his GF's step granny. She was having a declutter of the garden of her Wimbledon house and as he had helped her take some stuff to the charity shop and she was looking to rehome the tree she offered it to him as payment.....all right for some :T 'Twas so large he couldn't get it through the front door of the flat so it resided in the small front garden and when he sold up he sadly left it for the new owner.....
Will bear importers in mind for future reference thoughMortgage-free for fourteen years!

I'll get my coat. Slightly different placements, but often for same results.
Chairs are actually going to be the dark, but not any time soon, and and off dark ...not an ebony ( we don't do pure blacks or whites) but when they eventually get painted...I'm in no rush, they'll be a dark misty grey colour.
Parasol, agree entirely
Hadn't thought of up lighters in truth! That's actually a great idea! Thanks! We have solar lights in the herb beds ( not my choice but fir loves them) but up lighters would be great! Super, super suggestion!
Also agree about plants cascading over wood.....it will happen. Thyme is starting already, we have anise in a bed, and sweet cicely.....:D. But I definitely agree, it will look MUCH better when this gets better established and settled. ATM some of the beds are incorrectly laid out with poor placement ( parsley for example was planted in the wrong place, but might as well stay for the year
) And some have temporary residents like saladings and radishes and beets......things that will fill it this year rather than weeds, until budget eases up a little
. Later the annual herbs can go in pots
Under those pots is a water meter...a man hole coverWe want to get a decorative thing for there .......just not sure what yet. We'll see it when we see it, you know?
Really, I don't disagree with anything you said! ( apart from I'd choose a different rose for this particular garden:o) mme Alfred C. Is a great dame, ( she was one of the ladies I carried in my hand to get married with) but wrong for there. But I love that you love her too.0 -
Sorry ! My reply was tongue in cheek .....0

£9.99 acer potted-up; I really must do something to cheer-up the front step of chez moi.
Also repotted two orchids, the fussy ones which need more moss and perlite it the mix, an exact amount of light and precisely the right watering...:mad:0 -

Fell in love with some wonderful Arts & Crafts style planters - one was vast (DH suggested i could live in it, lol :rotfl:), terracotta and just shy of £600 which for the size and craftsmanship was well worth it ..... totally gorgeous too and perfect for our *look*. Would look wonderful with the mature olive we saw a few weeks back for £1500 at another place. However a) we have an olive (although not of such mammoth proportions) and b) we really don't need another enormous planter!
The smaller pair were lovely too and a more sensible purchase - and by comparison a real snip at £280 - but I'll still need to re-jig the terrace and find a new home for the antique staddle stones if we go ahead and purchase.x
Phoebe which garden centre do you go to if you don't mind me asking. A friend is looking for some giant sized planters. Sounds like there are some good places over there by you. I'm still hoping for s trip to David Austin in the next few weeks.0 -
Dobbie bargains, but I've recently discovered the place & love their cream teas for two. What a treat. I love their planters, but am restraining myself until the house is further on.
A Dobbie's opened up nearish to us on the Speke retail park. Since then my favourate nursery has closed as they lost so much business. Been sold for housing. They grew a lot of their own stuff, and had good selections of perennials. Plus they always had half price decorations sale from Boxing Day to New Year, had some wonderful deccies from them that I simply wouldn't have felt able to buy otherwise. We do have a nursery closer by, but it's a lot smaller so less choice of plants. But we intend to try and use it more as don't want to lose another local one. They've opened up a tea shop, so we might go and try that out when we get some spare time.0 -
