RAS, I can recommend the sunpipes. A friend has them and we intend to use at least one, having seen theirs.
I think all the animals owned by people here (or is it the other way around? :rotfl:) are lucky, but then we know that whatever effort we put in, will be repaid a hundred times over.
That's good to know, I am thinking of one in our gloomy hallway if lusted buildings officer can be persuaded, and certainly in the coach house.
As for being repaid...there speaks the man who doesn't have 'wash and brush the kiwi' on his weekend list. Seriously, its amazing the RSPCA don't turn up he hates it so much. He's filthy though from some rat holes, and his coat is very tangled.0 -
Couldn't resist the end-of-season bulb sale at crocus.co.uk, these should be arriving tomorrow. No ideas where I'll find space!
Arum italicum (lords and ladies)
Eremurus stenophyllus (foxtail lily)
Hyacinthus orientalis 'Carnegie'
Puschkinia scilloides var. libanotica (Russian snowdrop)
Iris 'Cream Beauty' (Dutch iris)
Anemone blanda 'White Splendour' (wood anemone)0 -
Sun Pipes are great..
Anyone planning alterations that require Planning permission - it's always best & free to have your local officer call round & run through with her/him what your thoughts are & get their's. It can save a lot of aggravation & expense to try & gauge what floats their boat & what sinks it.
Willow we planted twisted & hanging like a broom sweeping the grass so that was sawn off during a break in th eheavy showers. Talking of showers, you'll all be pleased that I snug one today in a holiday home when asked to pop in an do a quick check......their shower works a treat! Now you know all my secrets.
Well just away to whip some cream as I have a notion for scones, cream & todays picked plump brambles.
Shouldn't boast but I have a wash of wood anemone growing down in the wood. They are lovely to see after the Winter. We also have a mass of primroses - wild ones that even grow on the shore. It's quite something to see when they 're all out. Everything now is going back, leaves really showering down.....dark, wet.......0 -

Living in a 70s bungalow, I never get to persuade the lusted buildings officer in a dark hallway, or even in broad daylight for that matter!
May as well get into character.... I hear on the grapevine that my opposite number in the Panto wants to play the prim & proper one this year, just for a change, which means I get the huge false boobs and double entendres. That's on top of demonstrating skills in martial arts......or is it marital aids?
Speaking of grapes, I was surprised to see we have huge bunches of them on our ornamental vines, which trail along the ropes to guide Tesco vans safely into next-door. They're small, but plentiful, and they taste OK too.0 -
morning all,
I really am going to hate the clocks going back...it makes me feel I just want to hide away in the house until spring...
Ras, yes we are really surprised how lively they are..for their age...the other litter will be 5 weeks on Wednesday, and they are funny as fooook lol.. their mum after a bit of a bad start, has really turned out to be a good mum...
we have now ended up telling the carpenter where to go, as he kept pushing the job back, and not returning my texts when I asked for a definite start date... so got someone else... so that should be done in the next week or two, plus we have been waiting on someone finding re-claimed welsh slates in the size we need, but now as a matter of urgency we have now had to go with buying imported slate to slate where we have taken the chimley down,
After all that, and a bit of fencing, our pot is now well and truly empty againWork to live= not live to work0 -

Used to be free here in England, but most councils now think they should ape the private sector and charge people. It's probably still worth it, however.
I could probably still swing free advice here, though! When we changed plans late in the day, the council bods kept our previous BR application live, as it was cheaper for us.
We had two consultations when we started out in 2009, but by the time the plans went in, policy had changed and they didn't like their own advice.:rotfl:
They still passed the plans. We abandoned them. It was a "hideous carbuncle," as his Highness would probably say.....and an expensive one.
Piddling down here.:( Roofing out for now, but we kept a ceiling job in the kitchen as contingency.0 -

Yep. I spent a sodden morning in town at the Planning Office. They kindly saw me at no notice (I went in to book an appointment or find out when they did an open session), both Planning and Building Control.
Came away with a list as long as my arm of things I needed to include in the application though. I will pull it together and then try and book a session with the Conservation Officer.
Re sunpipes, we put some big ones in internal rooms at work. There had been lots of complaints about the rooms and those have ceased. We do have problems with people who get confused because they cannot turn the lights off!
For domestic scale they do one that look like one of those small attic skylights for use in conservation areas. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
